Seems like every single day....someone doesn't do what they are supposed to do.

Personal and/or business.....one or the other......or both.

Seems to be getting worse every year.

Wears you out after a while.

What's with all the sloppy behaviour these days?

I've been dealing with this at work for a long time. People fail to do their job, so to keep things flowing, I would do their part and mine..."Surprise!!" Their part is now my job to do, too!
I've went to the owners about this several times, and the only thing they do is call a meeting to address everyone as a whole, and won't address the problem one on one with the ones at fault.

And I'll edit this to give an example....

One guy sits and stays on his phone all the time, checking Facebook..etc. We all use our phones (I like to check TideFans from time to time myself!!), but get the job done. A couple folks started complaining that this one person, was slacking.....and he is a slacker....So... To address this issue, they are calling a meeting this week, to ban all cell phones in the building for everyone. They talk all big and bad, but they are afraid to address an issue one on one with the problem employees in the company, and therefore, punish everyone.....(not big deal to me)...but it won't solve the problem, he'll just stop reading his phone, and will start BS'n and interrupting others trying to work.......I feel like my boss is Mr MaGoo sometimes....blind and oblivious to the world around him.....

I see it as a failure by the management/supervisory staff. (While the cat's away....)If they're not able or willing to hold the employees accountable for performing their assigned tasks, the fault climbs the ladder as well.

It's a rare person who actually does what they say they're going to do. If you have found a man who will pull his weight , you have found a precious jewel.

Yes indeed is the case....but part of the problem is it's a family business, and they never give raises. You have to get so PO'd that you're willing to quit, in order to go and demand a raise.(which I've had to do a couple of times) it goes against my raising, in which I was taught to work hard, be dependable, do good work, and you will be rewarded (my parents were folks of the 40's-50's)

One problem, is (after they've fired almost everyone and we're a skeleton crew) one worker is a son-in-law of the owner. I've known them since my teenage years, and have been told more than once that I'm part of the family...(yeah, the red headed step child!!!!....and I'm not red headed!!) The office ladies consist of the owners wife and daughter, an older lady who has been with them for 25+years, and two ladies who've been there for 15 years or so that carry the weight. They are disgruntled because the cost of living has far passed them by, so they don't do their jobs. I've been with the company for going on 10 years, and have been the mule the whole time (which I'm a worker, and coming from what I've been used to doing, the job is easy) but when you're working, and the others are jerking, and making more money, it gets under your skin a might......especially when you've been forced to sign a "no compete" contract...
(I work in Huntsville in the Orthotic and Prosthetic business).....I don't make enough money to try and sell my house and move somewhere else, nor does the position pay enough to drive over the 100 mile distance that's in the contract.

That is 100% correct....but it seems (from my experience) that businesses take advantage of people like that, (see my above post) and the responsible ones, are the ones that have to carry all of the weight, while the slackers draw as much or more money.

It's a "What have you done for me Lately" world.....meaning, "we don't care how many nights and weekends you've worked for no pay.....you need to take off because your daughter is in ICU on her deathbed?....well, we hope you have enough leave built up"....
(Which I had ALL my leave because I never take off, because I don't want to come back to a mountain of work because nobody will do squat to help)
As was the case when my 9 year old daughter died Oct 2010........but I will digress.......

After a woman I was married to for 22 years suddenly and without warning departs - I don't put anything past anybody anymore. Then says "you don't meet my needs" (I love gals who mouth this cliché and can't even answer their own damned question) - and when the marriage counselor she insisted on us seeing (a woman) basically cornered her on it, she blew up and stormed out of the room.

At this point, I'm not surprised by much of anything.

IMO, its society as we know it. Zero accountability, everyone wants/feels like they deserve something. It's NO longer about trying to do the right thing (even when someone isn't looking) but more of the entitlement people feel. Makes me sick.

I remember your plight Selma, as I was going through the exact same thing at the same time. I'm still going through it. And like you, nothing surprises me anymore!

Oh, family business. Been there, done that. Imo, you should put out your resume and move on. You'll never move up in any business where its family first, and everyone else last.

danb has hit on one of my pet peeves. Rich owners who fail to properly reward their employees. I have seen it time and time again. To me it is un-Christian. Yes I understand the structural dynamics involved.

I tend to agree with Bama Reb. Be hard to advance in a small family business. Marry the bosses daughter?

I totally agree....but I have a dilemma.....I was forced to sign a "no compete" contract that limits me to work anywhere within a 100 mile radius for 2 years.....and our field has took a hit in the last few years anyway.....used to be, a doctor wrote a script for a brace or prosthesis, and the patient was referred to an O&P facility, or their choice of facility. It worked out, because it was a system of checks and balances....if folks in our field didn't do a good job, the doctors would hold the company to make it right, or would stop referring patients to that facility...

Now, in the last 3-4 years, the big Doctor groups (TOC and Sportsmed here in Huntsville) saw a way to make bigger money and employ people under them to make the devices...(I'm State licensed, and nationally certified in my field) but anyone off the street can do what we do for $10-$12/hr under the license of a doctor, and they have the final say of, it's right or not.....I think it's a violation of ethics, but the AMA is a powerful group in Montgomery, and nationwide, so it is what it is.....

Lol!!! I could have back in the day...(shut up Dan[emoji21]) but it is what it is........

And also Seebell, do you ever go to complete auto recyclers? My best friend John works there at the counter, and he makes more money selling used parts, than I do as a certified licensed Pedorthist !! I'm not too far from Maysville (Hazel Green!)

I remember you telling me about but I've never been. Is he the one at the 4 Way or down at the old school?

Never had much luck with junk yards. I understand there are several now that take the parts off and essentially stock used parts. Last time I went to a junk was for a wiper motor. The guy said "that wiper cross references with a ford maverick. We got five of 'em stacked over there. The come off from under the dash" As I lay upside down trying to get to the motor , I started thinking about snakes hornets etc. I hightailed it out of there.

They are at the old school, but they own the property at the 4 way.....yeah, they've had a few bouts with rattlesnakes in cars in the past couple years!!!! They pull and stock the parts, and you have to call ahead now and they'll have it ready for you...used to, you could roll in there and go out in the yard to get stuff. But (not being racist) they had problems with groups of Mexicans coming in and while two or three kept them occupied in the office, 7-8 would be scouring the yard stealing stuff....so they have a call first policy now...

Every single day since posting this someone has screwed something up that interfaces my existence.

Today I was supposed to get a delivery from Amazon. Nothing urgent - a San Disc flash card I was waiting for to use in my new dash cam plus a replacement fuel pump for my work truck.

I was home from 11:30 on and was sorta keeping my ears open for the delivery while doing other stuff. After it started getting late I thought I better check the order status online.

Here's what it read:
Your package was left near the front door or porch

Huh? I looked all over the place.....by my front door...by the garage man door at the base of my front steps....in front of the garage....in my side yard where I store some stuff.....nothing.

So I figure it got delivered to a neighbor and I'll have to make a call on Monday - you know...standard customer-non-service stuff.

So I'm out in the front yard doing some gardening and something catches my eye at the end of the driveway....yup...it's my package. It's 8 feet from the road out front and 50 feet front my front steps and even further from my front door.

I get parcels on a somewhat regular basis and it's not a big deal to leave the parcel either at the base of my front steps or just inside the garage man door which is always open so my cats can access their food and water....it's NOT complicated.

My beef is not as much where they left the parcel but what was written on the delivery status. yes I know it's probably a default status but what's so HARD about taking the parcel up to where my ACTUAL HOUSE is??!!?? :mad2:
