While I agree that TT has alot of raw tallent, I just can't see his passing ability getting that much better from last year to this season. Yeah, he'll definitely be a factor in the run game but I just don't think he'll beat us passing.

When they say Tyrod Taylor is as good as or better than Tim Tebow I will not confuse the real TT for Tyrod Taylor.

The hype Taylor is getting is unreal. After putting up Cody Burns type numbers last year and facing a defense that will pound him every time he trys the hokie pokie is setting him up for failure.

From the video I've seen he couldn't beat Prattville from the pocket. I'm sure containment will be the game-plan. Dangerous runner? YES! T-bow? NO!

Tyrod is Kodi Burns with a better team surrounding him. Of course, he may surprise us and be a surprisingly efficient passer...but I think what you've seen from him before is what you're going to get from him. He's got a purely strong arm, great feet, but poor accuracy and decision-making in the pocket.

The modus operandi of VT football under Beamer has been to play aggressive but sound defense, swarming and attacking special teams with good punt/kick block plays and solid returners, run the ball well on offense, and have a QB who can make plays with his feet on 3rd down. The combination makes them a very relentless and tough team to play. Even if you prevent the block, they usually have a good athlete returning the kick who will be hard to contain if you max protect. Even if you shut them down on first and second down, if you have a slight bust of contain on 3rd down...their QB can usually run for the first and extend drives. Plus, their defense isn't going to make things easy for your offense either.

They'll rarely win pretty, in fact I'm almost certain they prefer to win ugly. I don't know if you can ever legitimately win a national title with their typical offensive style that seems to have a preference on mediocre passers with some foot speed, but it does make for a team that consistently is conference title competitive and will win 8+ games usually. Of course, if Tyrod has improved greatly as a passer...it is very possible that they could win a title this year. They simply won't do it with their QB running around like a chicken with his head cut off, you have to be able to pass efficiently out of the pocket to win national titles.

LOL Tyrod is much better than Cody Burns. Look at his true freshman stats when we had experienced WRs. Plus Tyrod is a MUCH better runner than Cody. Lets hope for a good game Sept. 5!

I cannot believe they are comparing tyrod to the real TT.

I'm confused, because the article doesn't actually say that, or even anything that remotely resembles that. Here's the only portion that mentions Tebow:
Florida quarterback Tim Tebow had to undergo a similar transition early in his college career. As a freshman, he played 4 games as Chris Leak's backup, just as Taylor was Glennon's understudy in Taylor's 2007 freshman season. Tebow took over starting duties as a sophomore and went on to win the Heisman Trophy.

Though Taylor became Tech's starter last season, there always was the Glennon safety net. Now, with redshirt freshman Joseph Clayton listed as Tech's No. 2 quarterback option, there's no safety in numbers at Tech's quarterback spot. It's Taylor's turn, and his alone.

"It depends on how much you want to win and what your passion is," said Tebow regarding his impressions of what it takes to become a leader at quarterback. "I think there are no limits. You have to want to do whatever it takes to win."
The fact that both players started as someone's backup isn't much of a "comparison". But hey if you guys wanna get all worked up over it, feel free.

I agree that VT is getting way too much hype for a 10-4 team that struggled at times last year. But the talking heads do this every season. Sometimes they're right, most times they're wrong, but they gotta fill the airtime somehow.

I noticed a couple things in that video.

1: TT is quick and he's fast. He'll make you pay if you over run the play or get too aggressive.

2: VT's O-line gets crushed in most of those highlights.

since when are Miami FSU and LSU labeled "slow" ?
FSU and Miami haven't fielded good teams for 5+ years, and I only recall one LSU highlight in that video and in it Taylor outruns what looks to be a big, slow, white linebacker.

Umm maybe they haven't been great but they have been decent and still field top talent. Their LBs are scary good/fast as are pretty much everyone on the field for them.
