As expected, Clowney picks USCe

Right now it is probably 55/45 Bama but that's because of the OV. It is sure to change but I do have to say it's looking alot better for us than ever before.

Thats better than before he came, i dont see why he would go to usc other than it being home team thing.

This guy Kornblut is nothing but a no-nothing USCe fan. There is no way he couldve gotten this interview b/c he hadn't even finished his visit yet. Don't read much if anything into it.

Kornblut is certainly a Carolina fan, but he knows plenty about S.C. recruiting -- largely because of his connections within the USC athletic department and from contacts and high school coaches around the state. He's not infallible, but he's not making this stuff up either.

I concur. Kornblutt knows what he is writing about. You do have to remember though that he is writing for a SC newspaper and SC fans and readers. He also obviously gets most of his info from SC folks. So you do have to take it with a grain of salt. Having said that he still seems to be one of the best sources for SC HS prospects info.

What did he have to say about JF last year?

I know he has some pretty reliable sources and I didn't necessarily mean that he knows nothing but there isnt much of a way to get that info on Clowney before they hadnt even left Tuscaloosa.

This isn't the first time Kornblut has contacted someoone during a recruiting trip. Coach Carroll knows Kornblut well enough to say, sure I'll give you the scoop.

Here is the latest on Clowney after his Bama visit from Kornblut. I certainly hope that Clowney does not wait until Feb. 14th to announce which school has his heart.

Jadeveon Clowney visits Alabama
DE Jadevon Clowney of South Pointe made his official visit to Alabama over the weekend. His mother and coach also were on the visit though his coach traveled separately and did not participate any of the meetings. "It went well," Clowney said. "He did have a great time," said his coach Bobby Carroll. "He liked it and his mother liked it." Asked if he had a favorite right now, Clowney said, "I don't really have one."

Oh man, hate to hear him possibly push back his announcement to the 14th. That's just more time for everyone to sweat but maybe that will give us more time to convince him to come to UA. Buckle your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy ride

Actually since he is supposed to be a SC lock any delay doesn't really hurt our chances. I think such actions are unfair however to other kids because any spot he doesn't take could be given to someone else.

As for SC and their future. They had a good year but not extraordinary. They got to Atlanta because of the failure of Florida and Georgia to play competitive ball and once there were destroyed. I see no evidence they can close the gap between themselves and the kinds of teams that actually WIN sec championships.

only a second tier team thinks getting to Atlanta makes them a championship caliber team. Its something to be proud of in any year, but thats not the goal at Alabama.

I wish we could get a video interview of his impression of the OV at UA instead of hearing from the UCSe media only. I'm not saying it's without merit but I would like to see his views on video. From everything I've heard from some people in T-Town, he had a great time and was impressed highly. Crossing fingers

the latest from Kornblut.

A source said Monday night USC still has the inside track for Clowney. His comfort level with the program and the proximity of Columbia to his home remain compelling factors in Clowney's mind according to the source.
Quiet day for Clowney

A lot of Carolina fans feel he should stay close to home so his family has an hour or so drive to watch him play. Kornblut mentions it in his article as a reason he will sign with USCe. Just curious, if they feel the same about the 18 or so kids from Florida on their roster. I am pretty sure that CNS , experienced at recruiting nationally has a compelling reason to come to T-town

the debacle against auburn and florida state clearly show they are not championship caliber yet they lack something only championship teams have called defense. only exception is auburn they had no defense but won the NC. other than bama who did they beat and no florida doesnt count they sucked this year.

that is Schlabaugh and Andy Staples personal picks, not SI and ESPN. there are other top 25 lists with USCe in the 17-22 range on those same sites. and your lists have 3 and 2 SEC west teams finishing ahead of USce, respectively. so it doesn't look as if they are actually picked to win an SEC championship, just picked to lose again in Atlanta. If you are a Gamecock fan, and lose by less than 5 touchdowns, it is another step forward.

If we base opinions on meaningless polls, maybe JC should come to Bama to win a National championship in 2011.

Scout.com: 2011 CFN First Look Rankings

1. Alabama 2010 CFN Final Ranking: 10 CFN Record: 10-3 2010 CFN Preseason Rank: 1 CFN 2010 Preseason Prediction: 10-2 2009 Final Ranking: 1 2008 Final Ranking: 7

The Tide loses Mark Ingram, Julio Jones, Greg McElroy, and OT James Carpenter, and Marcell Dareus is taking off early from the defensive line ... and the Tide will probably win the national title.

the CFN poll has USCe finishing #27

or a scientific approach-

Alabama the real favorite for 2011

thats why theyre recruiting JC....to build that defense.

every recruit has their own set of priorities...they arent our own.

I think he lands at SC, btu his official visit definitely helps our chances.

So would South Carolina's.

Um, not so much. To equate South Carolina's defense with Alabama's is a stretch of epic proportions. One thing I'll say for South Carolina fans, they enjoy a tiny degree of success and then think they're on par with the big boys for now through eternity. Sorry, but it ain't so.
