ASSOCIATE AD ANNOUNCEMENT COULD COME TODAY
University of Alabama athletics director Mal Moore is expected to announce the hiring of a new senior associate athletics director at UA, perhaps as soon as this afternoon.
Moore said last Saturday that he expected to name a person to fill the newly-created position “early this week."
Johnny Williams, currently the athletics director at Troy State University, is expected to be named to the job. The other finalist for the position, Michael Alford of Crimson Tide Sport Marketing, told The News on Sunday that he has withdrawn his name from consideration.
Williams, a native of Holt, has served as Troy’s athletics director since 1993.
The new position in the UA athletics administration would have oversight responsibilties in areas including the ticket office, Tide Pride program, sports information and the in-house marketing program. Moore said Saturday that while that would involve the new administrator in the Tide football program to some extent, responsibility for the football program would still rest with the athletics director.
