Link: ATH/S Malcolm Mitchell committed to UGA

I hate losing recruits to anyone so I of course and disappointed to lose Mitchel But from a program standpoint, Nick Saban is THE BEST DB coach in the country. He can take a three star guy and turn him into a first round draft pick. Alabama gets way more than their fair share of top DB's and we have the best training in the country.

Georgia meanwhile has been hauling in top recruiting classes for years under Mark "one foot in the grave" Richt and haven't done squat with them. So I'm not at all worried about them.

I guess MM wants to play on offense.

I hope this doesn't come across as sour grapes. Here it goes:

1)I don't like coaches visiting kids on the day a player makes his decision. I'd think the emotions of the impressions of the day will play a great part in the decision.

2)Why was Bama leading up for so long and then all of a sudden he goes to UGA? Even Rome thought he was coming to us.

3)Why was Coach Smart storming out of VHS?

MM was right in his comments about not being able to play right away at Bama vs. Georgia. Unless you're a J Clowney type player you will wait in line to play here for the foreseeable future.

Let's get it all out of the way now:
  • he never woulda made it at Bama.
  • Way overrated.
  • Didn't want to compete.
  • Didn't want to win a National Championship.
  • He would rather be on a losing team.
  • He's actually 5'8", not 6'1" as listed.
  • He's not a typical Saban DB.
  • He probably has grade issues. I heard he's going the JUCO route.
  • I live in the area, and kids from that area usually have character problems.
  • UGA cheated.
I think I covered it all... please add as you see fit. :rolleye2:

Also, I heard he gets sudden bouts of IBS when covering the deep ball while playing Cover 3 Rip/Match Left. Which is exactly Saban's terminology and one of his favorite coverages. In this economy, with funding cuts at State Universities, I don't know that we could hire the extra field maintenance personnel. Thats why this had to be mutual.

On a serious note, CS do you know why CKS would've stormed out in anger. He surely knew that GA wasn't just going to concede Mitchell. Was there words exchanged or is it something else?

1. Coaches from both Bama and UGA did visit or try to visit Mitchell today. I don't know the details so I can not comment.

2. Mitchell did say that Alabama lead the whole way and Rome did say he was 99% certain that Mitchell would commit to Bama.

3. The Coach Smart storming out of VHS was a UGA fan posted hearsay, so whether or not that happened is in doubt.

The bottom line is you can never tell what is going to happen with a commitment. I have said that repeatedly over the years and Mitchell today proved that point.

I wish him well at UGA except against Bama.

I was just posting if half of what I was hearing today by UGA fans, tweeters, and bloggers was true then Bama was in trouble with Mitchell. I have no way of knowing if that is a correct report or just an UGA fans wrong interpretation or embellishment of the situation. I highly doubt it happened.

I wonder if CKS was blocked from seeing Mitchell, even though staff new he was coming, due to GA's coaches being there? Or, its a complete snow job by some Jawja Bushhog. I don't see CKS losing his cool over a recruit choosing someone else, unless the manner in which it was done is questionable.

I know Bama had coaches there, but I'm still not in favor of it. Just makes me wonder if the player let the emotions of the day cause his decision.

Good!!!! Seriously GOOD!!!

This guy obviously thought he was Lebraun James deciding between Chicago and Miami.

I really don't want that kind of player.

Good luck and good riddance.

sip

Sip, be fair. The kid is a kid. The fact that his announcement turned into Italian Opera may have been the doing of a radio station trying to make a buck.

I don't understand what you are trying to say. The emotions of any day that a commitment announcement is made by any prospect affects or causes his decision. This is why family members, friends, coaches, teammates, analysts, writers, fans are sometimes surprised when the logical or expected commitment does not happen.

The fact is he picked where he wanted to go, which was UGA so be it. Just like Calloway wants to play a position we were not recruiting him for. I am glad CNS will not sell out to get a player. Calloway wants to be a RB we wanted him at LB/S. Mitchell wants to play WR we want him DB. I am glad there is a coach that will not have a 17/18 yo dictate to them what is going to happen. You come to UA you play where we say if not enjoy it wherever and have great success.

I'm trying to say the player remembers "Coach X from college Z did such a good job today." Then he goes and makes his decision based on what he saw that day instead of waiting a day or two and reflect on what happened during the visit. Just like when a player commits after an impressive visit and then when he gets home he decides he made a mistake.

I just think the players need time to reflect on visits/coaches before making a decision.

Collateral damage alert: Georgia fans have been mumbling on and off for days that Dickson will be back in play by Signing Day. If Georgia also gets Crowell and Drew, the pressure will surely grow on X to complete the set.

Do they know yet who is going to be the coach for the 2012 season?
They obviously don't care about that. Just like Rolando McClain didn't care about Mike Shula's future when he committed to UA. Some kids want to play for their home school. We got Andre Smith even when USC was after him big time and just played in the national championship game.

If that was the case then why didn't Dickson just wait to NSD to announce his decision? GA fans are embolden by the turn of events today but I really doubt Dickson would commit to Alabama so late in the recruiting season just to flip so close to NSD. It can happen just not often under Saban watch. I call this wishful thinking by GA and predict that Dickson will remain and Alabama recruit.
