I don't think Chizik had much of a choice. Almost a no-brainer.

Troopa and loopy brings them in, chizwiz kicks them out. Does troopa and loopy get a bonus for each year they stay? They may have to take a second job if it doesn't get better.

Re: Auburn Center Reese Dismukes Arrested for Public Intoxication

I could see if he were down here with me in Pensacola or in Birmingham, but he was in Auburn. They knew who he was.
I wouldn't disagree with that. But the establishment has to care about enforcing it, whether it's a bar, a package store, etc.. When I went through the problems with my son, I reported the businesses to the local police, the ABC Board, etc.. I even called the owners of the establishments involved. The out was "he was using an ID that said he was legal". Same out can be used with Dismukes.."I didn't know who he was."

BTW...I am glad to see Chizik suspended him. Not like he really had a choice.

Where have I heard something like that before!?

I never had trouble getting into a bar when I was an underage college student. Bars in a college town that aggressively card aren't going to stay in business long.

We could have this situation happen with "one" our our guys. I remember once when even a Vandy player got arrested. But I just can't see "half" our team being arrested in a single year.

Re: AU football player arrested last night?

Seeing this image of a recruit surrounded by 4 "bunnies" reminds me of a story i've heard several times from several former Alabama folks. Bear Bryant was supposedly quoted as having said (I will give the PG version) - "College chicks are undefeated in recruiting"........
The date of this photo would make him a HS junior in this photo.

A number of posters have made the legitimate point that an incident like this could happen in Tuscaloosa. They're absolutely right. It could.

With odds only slightly shorter than Mrs. 4Q and me winning the Florida lottery later tonight, the pattern of behavior we've seen on the Plains will not be repeated in Tuscaloosa so long as Nick Saban is coach or AD. It's been one thing after another:
-- Players committing armed robbery en masse
-- Said armed robbery committed with a gun lent for that specific purpose by another player.
-- Said player got kicked off two teams in six months
-- In an unrelated incident, several people were murdered in a shootout at least tangentially involving several players.
-- Starting AA / All-SEC center is in public trashing black people, using the most explosive epithet in the English language. Way to engender that fambly atmosphere.
-- Said star Center used the fraternity boy defense -- I was drunk, so it doesn't count.
-- Said star center shows up passed-out drunk in a public place a week before the team he ostensibly attempts to lead plays a key season opener.

Yes, I'm sure some Alabama players have gotten drunk, even under age, in the past 365 days. Lord knows, I did that when I was in college. But I never attracted enough attention to get arrested, I did my passing out and suffered other consequences of over-indulgence in private, and I was never even tangentially related to a murder, let alone a multiple one.

This stuff in the Lovliest Village is not an isolated incident. It's a pattern. The core cause might lead to highly-rated recruiting classes, but they will be perpetually under-achieving and forever young. How 'bout that WDE, boys.

I agree with ya 100%..But..There's no excuse for it when you're a starting center & your team is depending on ya due too lack of quality depth..No excuse for it all all as far as I'm concerned..And it's couple a days away from game week..And you're absolutely correct the pattern in Lee County..My auburn friends are finally admitting it..Chiz willl be lucky to make it through the entire year without being fired..

EVERYONE BRACE YOURSELF! - A lot of the boogs on ITAT are actually seeing the writing on the wall. A lot of them are actually forming intelligent, rational thoughts.

If true, this is getting real old and is very embarassing for AU and the program. Geeze, put a curfew on them...it's game time.

I think it is just a product of society today. We have to remember that football players are still 18-22 year old college students.

Now I am not making a connection between the 4 players that went to jail for the robbery to everyone else, but if you check the newspapers there are tons of public drunkeness, DUIs and several of other incidences.

It is the reason that your neighbor's daughter ends up going to school and stars in a "Girls Gone Wild" Video.

Sorry but not true...we have problems at AU...too much stuff going on. Don't know what the problem is but CGC had better right the ship quickly or we are in for a long season.

What?? There was "The Gang of 4" arrest for armed robbery last year, but when & who else was arrested for that charge any of the three years that CGC has been HC?. Don't recall an assault charge ever, but I could be wrong. Also, I would venture a guess that there has been an under age alcohol consumption disciplinary action/arrest in virtually ever year that Auburn, and all other major college FB programs, has(ve) been playing FB since the turn of the century (that's the 20th century, not the 21st).
Eric Smith was charged with assault.

There have been problems, and like I posted elsewhere I think it centers around the player-interface coaches. Luper is a car salesman and Trooper is an overgrown teenager. Together they may be the best recruiting combo in America which seems like its coming at a price.

The difference is that you didn't have a rabid fan following in college that would worship the ground upon which you float. Lets face it, most college football players (not just AU) wouldn't be in college if not for the athletic gift. They're given every opportunity and then some, always given the benefit of doubt, and usually get bailed out of trouble by a coach, other players, or booster. They're fed like kings and yes you have to have your head buried to think these players don't get the under-table perks that allows them to dress well, drive in style, and party with the finest golddigger companions. When I was in college there were times that I literally had to plan where my next day's meal would come from; many of these college players left that problem at home and with it they left a sense of urgency and responsibility.

The problem to me seems to me a "rabid fanbase" that expects far more out of players than is fair. These players get a lot of perks, yes; they also have to endure a lot more physical and mental torment than you ever did when you were in school, with a "rabid fanbase" who think they are "entitled" to every aspect of their lives.

Unless you were a teetotaler in college you really have no right to be upset over this "incident."

Asking that our players stay out of trouble with the law is unfair? This isn't a difficult task. We aren't asking them to cure cancer or build a spaceship and fly us all to the moon. All we're asking is that they practice some self discipline, cull themselves, and stay out of the slammer. Believe it or not, we've had players manage to make it all the way through college without being picked up by the cops.

While we'd all love to see them go 4-8 this year, we probably should hope they maintain 8-9 win seasons with even an occasional Iron Bowl win. If the bottom falls out and we pound them every year, they'll shove CheezWiz and towel boy out the door and might even hire someone who can coach and will clamp down on the troublemakers.

By occasional, I mean once every seven or eight years.

This shocks me a little bit. My memory could be rusty but I remember him being a "silent commit" to us for a while before he took a dive into the deep AU pool. If we took his "silent commit" at the time, he, at least then, should be an okay kid. On the other hand, if a school get the commitment out of a kid by getting them drunk, how can the school later on blame them kid for getting drunk.

Re: Auburn Center Reese Dismukes Arrested for Public Intoxication

It could prove true that the crystal trophy was literally not worth it. To clarify, anything is worth it to Dye, Rane, et. al. to have won it all instead of playing second fiddle all the way to their graves. They took their shot and with 2% probability it actually hit the mark.

However, from a business perspective I think it will literally not be worth it. Under Tubbs, ticket sales were hurting. Jacobs said they were prepared to spend whatever it took, but most knew that was hogwash. They got a cheap head coach, spent a good bit on assistants (and players), and won a crystal trophy. That made a lot in bowl money, merchandise sales, and ticket sales for about 1-2 years. But now they have this. Please, Lord, let one of you have some publicly-published ticket sale data that confirms my hypothesis that season ticket sales are already plummeting. The billboards I see in BHM suggest it strongly. The Barn will continue to suffer waning revenues. They will probably have to keep Chizik a couple years too long since he won an NC, and since he knows where the bodies are buried. When they finally fire him, they'll have to pay his salary and find money for a new coach. Will there be boosters with cash left to afford a B. Petrino? Man, I'm glad I'm not a fan of the team that has to hope so.
