Auburn names Tony Franklin offensive coordinator

Ya don't think ole Pat will like slinginit around Aye?
Maybe they can come up with the I-formation spread play.

That and Tony's past reputation of notifying the NCAA of suspicious behavior at his institution of employment. He'll put the entire Auburn system on trial before he's through down there :)

I remember watching him on a episode of "Behind the Lines" talking about spilling the beans at Kentucky all the way up to CM Newton and the President.

I'm sure Pat will keep an eye on him.

Franklin was a two-year letterman at Murray State, from 1976-77, where he played running back. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Murray State in 1979 and 1989, respectively.

Tony has introduced his quick strike passing attack to several hundred high schools most notably Hoover High School. Tony's QB at Troy was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year.

Tony used the offense at Kentucky under Hal Mumme. Bob Stoops once said its easy to defend (Asst at Florida under Spurrier) as long as you have quick attacking defensive backs. :p_arrow: Hey Coach, lets get some of those quick attacking DB's. :)

I don't have a problem with that. Its funny to me that the Barn hired a rat, and Arky hired the 2nd coming of fRan.

Will The Barn go "Spread Eagle" at their Bowl

I read where Ears said they were gonna treat bowl practice like spring training and I wonder if they are gonna try to put in a large part of the new super secret "Spread Eagle" offense (Available online for only $19.95 on vhs or Betamax , call now, operators are standing by) Do you think they have enough practice time to give it ago?
I do know that if they go "Spread Eagle" the "naked bootleg" will have to be a big part of the arsenal.:biggrin2:
I think this could be a rough transition as they "search" for an offensive identity.;):biggrin2::biggrin2:

Not enough time to put the entire play book in. Even if they could, they don't have the players to make it work. Clemson's D is way to fast to start trying stuff out on.

Putting in a new offense, without the proper players is gonna be tough for the Barn. I see them struggling next year on offense. The spread eagle may work for them when they get the right players to run it, but SEC defenses have speed in which to deal with the spread. Should be interesting watching the Barns O next year

You need to go on the road, that's good stuff

I don't know where some are getting the idea that Auburn would be taking a great risk by installing Franklin's offense. Their current offense was ranked 101st in the nation this year. It wouldn't take much to improve on that.

OOOO If the barn is running Hoover's offense then expect them to run sideways a lot.

Oh yeah. We both know that "Hoover" offense uses a lot of "east-west" running and pretty much zero "north-south" style. Not that it can't be modified but the lack of any sort of power running game certainly hurt HHS on more than one occassion. I doubt tubby will make that same mistake.

Anyone else see Tubs PC yesterday? I caught the highlights on the news and he apparently was asked about running Franklins offense at Auburn, and Tubs responded that they were going to keep doing the things that he (Tuberville) likes to do, ie. run the ball with two backs and have the ability to throw downfield when needed. It sounded to me like, Franklin will not be turned loose to run "his offense" like everyone thinks. If I didn't hear correctly, then maybe someone could enlighten me. But thats the jist of what I heard.

I listened to the presser just now and Tubberville said they will use the 2 back sometimes, in other words they will still have a fullback on some occasions. Pretty much said Franklin ran the ball half the time at Troy and that trend will continue. Said he knows that Tony will have to adjust his offense for the SEC and utilize the other coaches on the staff for guidance preparing each game

From what I've read, Franklin won't be very active in the Bowl, but they are switching over to Franklins offense. Very different from the Saban/Applewhite system where as Saban handed Applewhite his playbook. Franklin brought his own playbook, but how much Tubby inputs into what formations and what plays to call is up for debate.
