My oldest brother along with his wife and their 3 cats are visiting from Virginia. Towing their travel trailer and staying at our local RV campground for a week. Really nice place.

Last night we met at Mom's for take-out Chinese.

I couldn't resist a pic of their new 1 ton Silverado next to my new Volvo wagon. David and Goliath, for sure!

There is an article in WSJ about a sailor who traded in his wife's car for this in 1969 while stationed in Pensacola FL. He still has the car, and the wife who wasn't too excited about losing her Pontiac back then.

Soon after I got transferred to the naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. At the time, there was this Dodge commercial with a stereotypical southern police officer—big guy, big sunglasses—who pulls over a Dodge driver. He says, “Boy, you’re in a heap of trouble.” We were driving cross-country, the baby in a bassinet in the back (the rules were different then), and we got pulled over in Arizona. The officer said, “I’m sorry I pulled you over. I’ve never seen one of these cars in the flesh!” We had a video camera. He smiled into it and said, “You’re in a heap of trouble,” just like in the commercial.

Sounds like Brother in Law has a tall 5th wheel. Lots of room inside, but the 5th wheel in the bed of your truck takes up a lot of room. Barbara Ann and I have gone to the RV Trade Shows, and went thru everything there. 5th wheels take many steps to get inside, and with the slides pulled out, a lot of room inside. I just never loved them.
The trailers I rebuilt, were a heck of a lot of work. I did two of them.
I'd never do it again. BUT... I bought em cheap, and sold em quick.
My favorite camper was a 30' Tow Behind, with slides. It was easy to tow, and easy to back into a narrow space.
If I ever buy another I'd look for a 22-24' Tow Behind with slides.
Don't take up as much driveway as a 30' camper did.
