The people that turn this into a left vs. right are the people that view it that way and choose to turn it into left. vs. right. Believe it or not everyone looks at the world as black and white, left vs. right.

The movie was highly predictable but totally immersing and well worth the 12 bucks. I spent 25 bucks on the Coors Classic the other day would have much rather had seen this movie twice.

Oh, no. It's much more sophisticated and daring than that. It's ...... no, wait, my bad, it's exactly like you describe. You are quite insightful, sir. ;)
Wait, I saw that episode where the Borg used Picards knowledge of Star Fleet to try and attack earth but then that wiley acting Capt. Will Riker went all, "Who Moved My Cheese," on the Borg and won the day.

With Cameron, it's an ideology thing from the get-go. I tried to overlook it b/c it is what I expected, so I won't hold it against him in evaluating the movie. Outside of the visual graphics that are really awesome (definitely Oscar worthy), the story was as vanilla as our offense was against Auburn; way too predictable to be considered a decent story; the two groups in the movie were completely homogenous, no real individuality amongst the characters, two groups of lemmings. If nothing else, Cameron's portrayal of the American military is disgusting (and this is not a right v/ left issue).

Sounds like a lot of "white guilt" just for going to a movie! I'll wait until the Blu-Ray!

I get what you are saying, but its really not a left-right thing. Its more of a "wow, this tired old plot again?!" thing. I mean, I just guessed the main "twist" in the story without even seeing the movie.

For example, I really liked the movie "Kingdom of Heaven". However, in the end it just became another movie that tries to make my church out to be some power-hungry, hypocritical, tyrannical appendage of the devil. It doesn't make me mad or anything, but that storyline just gets old after a while, and I'd rather see something else. In short, I'm skipping the cliche of Avatar and am going to save my money for the much better looking Sherlock Holmes. I just hope they didn't show all the action in the previews. :)

The early word I am seeing on Sherlock Holmes is mixed at best.

Avatar also makes a lame, gratuitous comment on healthcare. The hero is a paraplegic marine, and the movie makes it a point that the technology exists to cure spinal injuries, but it is unaffordable. He therefore is naturally extorted into joining the avatar program in exchange for the promise of medical treatment.

Like I said, I hope they didn't give it away in the previews. I'm just looking for a light, fun, action movie to take my little brothers to. I don't need some deep underlying moral in every movie I watch. Just make it entertaining. :)

Also, does anyone know when that surrogate/real videogame movie comes out? Its the one where some guy makes a virtual reality game where you play as actual people who actually kill each other, and the surrogates are prisoners. It looked kind of like a high-tech gladiator plot.

One review liked Sherlock Holmes to Wild Wild West... and that is definitely not a good thing. The bulk of the criticism comes from the fact that Guy Ritchie apparently didn't know what type of film he wanted to make (Straight action or comedy), and it ended up a jumbled mess at more points than not.

I'm on board with what you are saying...... until you finished with "I'm going to save my money for the much better looking Sherlock Holmes."

I'm not sure if you're joking or being intentionally ironic, but if any story is going to be predictable, tired, and worn-out it's sure as hell going to be a Hollywood over-dramatization of a regurgitated Sherlock Holmes. Trailers have fooled me before, but this movie looks bad.... and I mean real bad....

I'm going to predict that after 3 months after the release of the movie... Avatar will have an overall rating on IMDB at least 2 full points ahead of this movie. This movie looks like a mediocre 5.0.

I've heard it was decent if you weren't expecting the story to follow the typical Sherlock stories from ACD.

On Avatar, yall should watch the south park episode that had a little part about it (episode is titled "Dances with Smurfs"). They parody Glenn Beck and Palin (just her book) in the episode.

Yes I was being intentionally ironic. :p

I did go and see it yesterday though, and it was exactly what I was looking for. A light action-comedy with a few plot "twists" thrown in. No deep morals or subtle hints at current events, just a nice, quick movie that made you think a teeny bit. Kinda like Star Trek.

Besides, I never put any stock into professional movie reviews. If you read em, you would think that every movie is blah and not worth the time. I'd rather take the word of people I know.

i saw avatar over the weekend. it is exactly as others have described it. it was still worth the money just for the visuals. blue nipples are typically something i dont associate with sexuality however this one was different. on a related subject- do any of you think the blue humanoids ever interlock their tail thingies?
