Given the expense of the movie, Cameron obviously wanted to make sure even the dumbest and most directionless among us would be able to sit through the flick after plunking down 13 bucks/ticket. That's why the plot was so boilerplate.

I'll mark this collection of comments down as reason #45312 to keep my kids out of public schools. ;)

Me and the wife went to see the movie sunday and had to say we enjoy the movie. No we didn't feel like we wanted to kill ourselfs or feel sorry for something that is not real. I know who I am and how I believe that no movie or book will change my views on what is right and wrong.

Finally got out to see the film today on my day off (MLK Day). Saw it in 3D, and I agree with the whole Pocahontas/Dance-With-Wolves stuff, and the plot was a little corny....and illogical/implausible (how did the Na'avi all of a sudden get machine guns for the battle sequence, when up until then they had bows and arrows?). But the CGI was breath-taking, especially in 3D.

Some people on youtube have mashed Avatar and Ferngully scenes/ previews. It is pretty hysterical, especially when the "big tree" from each movie are shown. Truly epic CGI from the movie and deserves every award for visual effects/ etc, but the awards end there.

I saw the movie and enjoyed it thoroughly. However, I felt the movie was less about a corporation trying to exploit another planet, (though that element was part of the plot) but more about a man's spiritual awakening.

He began the movie as self-centered, self-indulgent. Even when he first became Na'avi, he really wasn't one of them and all the natives knew it. However, as he was taken in, he saw that the world was much bigger than himself. He could bond with other animals as well as the spirit world. He then under stood the meaning of being Na'avi and obviously did not want to return to his former life.

Would the theme be much different if the main character had been a soldier who then listened to an evangelist, attended the church, and became part of a larger family, and a similar spiritual awakening? Just a thought.

If you take out "Na'avi" and insert "Sioux" you pretty much described Dances with Wolves. That is my problem with this movie. Re-watch Ferngully as well...the home tree looks almost identical in both movies.

Yes, but Michelle Rodriguez and her revealing top were quite stunning in 3D. Worth the price of admission.

Seriously, it is entertainment. If you don't like the opera, don't go to the opera - but don't begin to pretend that your dislike of the opera makes it any less wonderful...

You guys can have Michael... I mean Michelle Rodriguez, I'll take Zoe Saldana anyday. How come Black + any other race = demi-god sexyness?

Zoe (sexy name too) parents are of Dominican and Puerto Rican decent.......*drool*
