I saw the movie and enjoyed it thoroughly. However, I felt the movie was less about a corporation trying to exploit another planet, (though that element was part of the plot) but more about a man's spiritual awakening.
He began the movie as self-centered, self-indulgent. Even when he first became Na'avi, he really wasn't one of them and all the natives knew it. However, as he was taken in, he saw that the world was much bigger than himself. He could bond with other animals as well as the spirit world. He then under stood the meaning of being Na'avi and obviously did not want to return to his former life.
Would the theme be much different if the main character had been a soldier who then listened to an evangelist, attended the church, and became part of a larger family, and a similar spiritual awakening? Just a thought.
