Why does Alabama's back-ups are not as good as the other big name programs. FSU, Michigan, Tennessee, GA, and alot of others have back ups that can come in and not miss a step but when Alabama's look horrible when they come in. Is it lack of talent or coaching? I thought since Mike was the Quarterback Coach at Miami and was a QB this would be our best coached position. ANY THOUGHTS?

I agree but

other back-ups on other teams come in all the time and do good. We looked horrible throwing 4 int in a game. I understand probation but we are talking about not signing a QB in 2 classes.(John Parker Grey Shrit) Does anybody else see FSU not throwing the ball when Rix when done? No their back up came in and did awsome.

I think part of the reason is that the Franchione/Price duo didn't bring in any quality QB's in their 3 recruiting classes other than Brodie.

My 2 Cents on the QB's

Ther was a spell where we did not sign many QB's, Dubose failed to bring in one his last year, and fRan (although he did bring in Brodie) signed backup type players Avalos, Pennington, ect... Marc G. is basically a walkon with good talent but IMO does not have the desire.

Not only was BC learning his third system in one year last year, but so were the back ups. The programs mention have had a system for years and players are immersed in it from the time they step on campus. Give CMS and staff a few years to establish their system and the players getting comfortable in it and I believe you will see the same production.

Two reasons -- poor recruiting/sanctions and no continuity. I think we'll see CMS bring in some talented QBs who can run his offense. And I think they will all play better with continuity in our schemes. As noted above, we went from fRan to Price to Shula in a very short period and all ran very different offensive schemes.

In this offense it takes a lot of time and lots of practice for our QBs to get comfortable. I think CMS is looking to stock the cupboard so that our QBs come in and redshirt their first year, then spend 2 years learning the system before they see a lot of playing time. In the future I expect to see a Senior as our starter and a Junior (with 3 full years in the system) as the backup. When we can get to that point we won't see much drop off in production from our starter and our backup. But it takes time to get that rotation in place. Shula is only in his 2nd year with 1 recruiting class under his belt. In 3 years things will be much different.

Intriguing

How Can you say MG is basically a "walk on" ? He was heavily recruited by many big name schools during high school, was considered a top 20 QB in his graduating class and was given a scholarship at both Miami and Bama.

Guillon, no walk-on

I agree. How do you call a guy who was ranked as high as a top 10 QB and top 50 in the entire 2002 recruiting class, by some publications, as a walk-on? All MG needs is some more game experience and he will be fine. Marc already showed a lot of improvement in his second start. He made a couple of costly mistakes that resulted in interceptions, but they were still in the game and conceivably could have won had Marc stayed in.

You also have to remember that the most of the WR's also did not participate in the Spring. Timing is so key in a WR/ QB relationship. So is the experience of knowing which way a wideout will cut. And all players need game time speed experience. All of those programs also get players that are just plain ole that much more talented than ours!
