Bama climbs in week 7 coaches poll

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

Jury is still out on Indiana, but they looked pretty good yesterday...
Indiana is a solid, well coached team. They beaten an overrated Illinois team who now have two losses and should have never been ranked that high in the preseason to begin with. Oregon was a great win in Eugene and a historical for their program. Indiana does not play anymore ranked teams for the remainder of the season. They do not play Ohio state or Michigan. They may trip up at Maryland and Penn st. They could very well go undefeated before the Big 10 championship.

I didn’t realize Nebraska has quietly gone 5-1 with their sole loss by 3 to Michigan.

Dan Mullen has to be in running for AP coach of the year so far.

Tell me how this makes sense? Beat the #8 team and drop 7 spots . Below two teams you beat at their place. And Miami at 15? Remember, this was one metric used for the BCS at one time.

SP+ doesnt know/care what other teams are ranked or rated. It's all about how efficiently you play

We only had a 28% post game win expectancy (19% against UGA, for reference)

We didn't control the game as much as it felt like we did from an efficiency standpoint

We've got a lot we can improve on, but we've also proven what we need to prove

And we're within 1.5 of #5, so we'd only be a clear underdog to the Top 4

And to my knowledge, SP+ was never used in the BCS. It was Connelly's pet project he housed at SBNation for the longest and only recently was hired to ESPN

BCS computers were:
  • Anderson & Hester
  • Richard Billingsley
  • Colley Matrix
  • Kenneth Massey
  • Jeff Sagarin
  • Dr. Peter Wolfe

You are right it wasn’t Part of the old BCS, they used it as part of the new reformulated BCS because some of the other services don’t exist . Even with that, it’s supposedly a predictive model, and Mizzou damn sure didn’t control the game, no matter how I felt Bama didn’t control the game. BTW, The S&P+ predicted a score of Alabama 27, Mizzou 24 Last week. thats how the game played out, yet has Mizzou rated higher by 5 spots. Makes no sense. how do you win a game on the road and fall 7 spots and the team you beat doesn’t move? And don’t give me it’s efficiency, the final score is the ultimate efficiency rating., IMO.

I’ve no issue with our ranking but they are going to work Notre Dame back into the top ten. Hopefully USC can knock them off otherwise they’ve got a golden ticket into the playoff.
Ditto!

I have deep-seated detestation for that South Bend team. Seriously, though, what IS IT about them that catches the fancy of so many movers and shakers in the College Football scene?

We are the top-ranked 1-loss team.

Ouch!
But imo if we hadn’t lost that game to FSU this would be a different team that might have 2 losses already between UGA-Missouri. It was a serious gut and adversity check for the team and they’ve come back fighting hard ever since.

SP+ predicted Mizzou to win by something like 26-24

If it’s not your thing, don’t get worked up about ratings that measure…efficiency, your life will be more calm

I didn’t tell you anything that’s not easily found online about the ratings

Connelly developed it and it’s apparently decent enough to make a living off of
