Bama is Good!

Somewhere about 10 or 12 games back, this team "turned the corner". A lot of us (not that there has really been a lot of us) saw the limitations of this team after some of the earlier losses. We kept thinking that the team might start to gel and could make a leap in performance; bigger than the typical improvement over the course of a season.

I expected the team to make a leap but did not expect it to result in the number of wins that it has so far. I noticed the change taking place when we made the 3-1/2 hour drive for the mid-week game against Lipscomb.

I hate to think of myself as a bandwagon fan, but several years of frustration with Gottfried really hurt my interest. It wasn't just the mediocre results, but the clear realization that the teams were not well-coached. When there was no Kennedy Winston or whoever to clear out for, the offense just looked inept a lot of times, and the defense and intensity were very uneven. It was not good basketball, even during the better seasons.

What Grant is doing now is very encouraging, because there's not a lot of skill or size to work with, and he's getting just about everything he can out of those guys.

It's very early, but I'd guess some basketball blueblood will come calling on CAG at some point. I just hope he establishes Bama well enough to make it attractive to another top coach who can keep it rolling.

The team I saw before Christmas is not the same team I am seeing now. I do not know if the SEC teams are that much weaker or if the "light bulb" has turned on for this team. And, this is a team. They play well together, people understand their roles and what is expected of them, and there is constant encouragement. You never see a player get down on another player. And, I have watched CAG. Watch him walk the sideline, walk on and off the court. I have noticed a definite confidence in the way he is carrying himself. After the LSU game I noticed him walking off the floor and he had this calm but determined grin on his face. I do not know what the rest of the season holds but when was the last time we could say that we had won 9 out of 10 and I think all 9 wins were by double digits and we led for 38 minutes on the road in the one loss. Been awhile but I am enjoying it.:biggrin2:

I agree. I have been waiting to see how this team holds up on the road in a hostile environment such as Tennessee. The team I saw at the beginning of the year gave up leads and made big mistakes in the second half. This team now knows how to win and most importantly, they know their roles.

I hope he has more integrity than that and wants to stay. But, it is the nature of the job. I just hope that if he is able to accomplish a lot at Bama that the admin. and fans make it attractive enough for him to stay.

BTW - Ostendorf is reporting that Mitchell didn't start tonight because he was late for the team breakfast.

I agree, I hope he will look at this as an opportunity to really establish bama as a force. Florida has been able to hold onto Donnavan, so maybe we can keep Grant. I really think that if he continues to build on this early success, the admin. would do what they could to keep him around.

Sweet we are looking really good I like our chances of making the big dance even more after tonight.

CAG is doing an excellent job. We don't have the most talented roster in the SEC by any means, but I think we are the best coached team in the SEC. Really, this started last year, because down the stretch last year at the end of the season we were playing our best ball. Releford is really the difference this year. With the recruiting class we have coming in, the future looks extremely bright. I'll say this though, the Vandy game that is coming up will be a very tough game to win. Vandy plays well at home, and they have a god teaml. Its hard to win on the road in the SEC. If we can pull off a win ujp there it will be huge.

IMO this is the toughest Bama team I have seen in 10 years. Alabama is not afraid to mix it up with teams and will give you the courtesy elbow ha ha when needed.
