So far BAMA has been sleepwalking thru this series with A&M. They dropped game 1 by a 6-4 score, and now they have given up 7, yes 7 runs to A&M in the bottom of the second. Kilfoyl has been replaced by Salter who got us out of the inning. Do we have the guts to comeback? Who knows. This umpire behind the plate only calls a strike if it's down the middle so let's see if we can get a few hits. I certainly hope so, or we will probably get run-ruled.

This team just isn’t that great. They have been flirting with disaster for a while and it’s finally caught up with them.

Montana has been figured out, our staff either is unable to adjust or unwilling to do so, and we just don’t have a good hitting team to counter a bad pitching performance. It’s just who we are.

We will probably get to OKC depending on our Super Regional opponent but we are one of those 1 win and two loss teams or a 2 and done teams. Of course something could click and we get hot and make noise but it seems like this team needs alot more soul searching.

Well said! They need something. Right now A&M looks like the #2 team and we look #200, and we're three outs away from getting run-ruled. I said earlier that this umpire behind the plate is terrible, with a teeny tiny strike zone, and A&M took advantage of it. We have ignored it for the most part and helped A&M out. What is it with A&M this year? First football, then basketball, now softball. Let's see if we can avoid the run-rule loss.

Well, it didn't take long for A&M to score one in the bottom of the 5th to win it. Line drive to left field was misplayed which allowed the A&M, that had walked, to score. Aggies win 9-1. This BAMA team really needs to do some serious soul searching as they have looked completely lost in the two games so far at A&M. I hope we have some fight left in us. I'm BAMA 'til I die, but this one was painful to watch.

I will enter here as a long-time supporter of the program. I'm not at all a pessimist or Eeyore-type. I will always support this program, which is one of the tops in NCAA. However, there is a nagging, persistent question about this program. Why in the heck has Murphy never hired a hitting coach to help with offensive production? The Achilles heel of this team for YEARS is anemic offense. I'm no softball afficionado by any means, but I know when the SAME things keep cropping up for years, there is an issue. Why doesn't Murphy address it? In last years CWWS, Montana threw a perfect game. I hadn't thought we had a chance against Oklahoma, until that point. And then we lose against FSU because we cannot score. It's like that old saying about insanity being doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Murphy seems to be the opposite of Saban in terms of ability to adapt to the game.

Murphy fell in love with the slappers and dominating defensive players after they won it all for him in 2012. The problem is that everyone is used to it and it’s an automatic out. Teams around us like Florida, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, and Auburn have effectively closed the gap with us by getting bombers and decent pitchers. Our biggest advantage in the SEC is our pitching and defense but it comes with the trade off being a weak line up.

The hitting situation at BAMA has always baffled me too. Arkansas is leading the SEC right now, and what are they doing - pounding the ball. They have decent pitching, but they can score. Just take a look at KB Sides who transferred from BAMA to Arkansas this year. If I read it correctly, she was a lifetime .314 hitter at BAMA over 4 years, with a couple of home runs. She goes to Arkansas, and so far this year is hitting .398, with 9 doubles, 3 triples, and 10 home runs. Is the air different in Fayetteville vs Tuscaloosa? Murphy really needs to address the hitting, but who knows if he ever will.

look I’m not going to make absolute predictions like a certain “coach” on the football board does, but watching Murph and occasionally being around him through the years I kinda get the feeling that he feels like winning like Oklahoma and UCLA is bad for the game and his way of defense and pitching are somewhat more pure.

I fear that we may have wasted a chance to get a title with Montana and it’s because we pride ourselves too much on defense over hitting. This is by far the worst hitting team Bama has had In awhile. I know people love shipman, but let’s be honest she is neither the hitter Bailey was or the catcher Dykes was but she is our best player. Then you have a debate between Prange and Bloodworth as our second best. Then you get into the potential people like Jena and Tow. None of these girls would probably start for Oklahoma. Shipman might be a DH but that’s a maybe. Tana would probably be the only sure fire starter for Oklahoma or UCLA.

My point is that we are not that great this year but we are good enough to make noise if something clicks.

So far today BAMA has had 2nd and 3rd, with 1 out, in both the 3rd and 4th innings, and couldn't get a run in. Totally inefficient at the plate. We do, somehow, lead 2-1 going to the bottom of the 4th.

Update: A&M tied it 2-2 in bottom of the 4th with a lead off dinger. Prange returned the favor in the top of the 5th with a shot over the scoreboard. Once again, BAMA had a runner at second, one out, and couldn't do anything. 3-2 BAMA going to bottom of the 5th.
