News Article: Bama seeded 11th in College Football Playoffs going into conference championship games

I gotta admit....watching a Bama game that's being played in the snow....would be something I haven't seen.

1983 Sun Bowl vs SMU, although it was just flurries.
1964 Sugar Bowl vs Ole Miss - although I don’t think it was snowing during the game but New Orleans got 3.5 inches the previous day

As I said.....it'll be something I haven't seen. My parents probably had that game on and my eyes probably saw this on our TV, but I have no memory of it.

Back in 2011, the naysayers said that we didn't deserve to be in the national championship after losing to LSU by three points on a field goal. But we got in, played them again, and totally shut them out.

Yes but I was just talking about how we may or may not do in the weather. And I was trying to make a point that it can be true we absolutely deserve a playoff berth and also true that we may well struggle and lose due to environmental factors like 6 inches of snow and sub-freezing weather. But we may win as well... both teams have to play in said weather after all and its not as if either Notre Dame or Penn State has played in that kind of an environment this year anyway.

I think the last time Alabama played in any kind of substantial snow was the 1964 Sugar Bowl against Ole Miss. There was like 3 inches of snow that day in New Orleans.

Coming from someone that likes computer rankings and AI, I still think there should be a human element to the rankings. But I do think it should be more data driven, it's clear that some people can't wrap their heads around the fact that there are two super conference, one (weak) power conference, and the rest are group of what ever. They are still trying to treat wins and losses as being somewhat equitable. They're not.

Let's compare some computer composite rankings to the committee:
Committee Computer
Boise State: 10 31
Alabama: 11 5
Arizona St.: 15 25

The gaps shouldn't be that substantial and it's interesting that they are really close in some cases, just lose all logic in other cases. Humans seem to have trouble understanding SoS, it's so simple that it's hard for me to understand why but even seemingly smart people get really derpy when it comes to SoS.

Agree with all of this but there is something to the eye test. You can generally still see certain things even against lower competition.

Going to be interesting how the seeding changes after the Championship games. Right now Penn State gets to play Arizona State and Boise. If they win the Championship they would be playing 1 less game that game could be vs a much better team.

Right now Oregon being set to play winner of Ohio State and Tennessee seems like a punishment for being the 1 seed.

The top seed will likely always get punished, because this format treats mediocre teams in trash conferences as equivalent to the top teams in top conferences. The top seed should be playing somebody like Boise.

I'm not saying SMU is good or bad. I'm just curious about the team as a whole. Idk what they are good and bad at and therefore idk what to expect vs Clemson
