Question: Bama stealing signals during first half?

I'm not going out of my way to bash Newton, but he had 39 yds on 22 carries. 216 yds passing, and 70 of that came on one throw that Barron should have intercepted or at least knocked away. It wasn't a pass that only a superior athlete like Cam could make. Any QB in the country can put a ball up for grabs, and thats essentially what he did.

Are you saying that if a team clearly displays its play calls via poster boards and hand signals, and I am clever enough to decipher the code, that I am cheating?

I'm not saying this actually happened. I'm just saying that if it did, then it's not cheating. It's a risk you take if you call your plays the way Auburn does. And by the way, I think it's highly unlikely that it would be possible to decipher the code.

I'm not the one who referred to it as "stealing" signals. I agree that if you put it out there for the world to see, its fair game. But the issue isnt that simple. In order for it to be true, as you said, youd have to crack the code. Thats the dirty part. Thats where the cheating could possibly come into play.

I bet if someone stole our signals, youd suspect the other team of cheating. Youd want to know how they cracked the code. Did they steal a play book? Did they tape a practice? You dont just figure it out by sitting in the stands or watching the replay on your dvr.

I'm not flaming the OP, but if I want to read ITAT I know how to get there.

I'm not flaming you back, but nobody's forcing you to read my post. If you're offended, or if you don't believe I'm credible, move along.

I asked a question about something being discussed by AU coaches hoping that one of our more 'inside' mods or posters might be able to shed a little more light on it from our end.

Going back and re-watching some of the 3rd quarter, it seemed like their players were bringing in the plays, and the only times Cam would get them from the sideline were audibles just before the snap. Which proves nothing.

True. We agree.

Keep in mind we left roughly 21 points laying on the field. 4 trips to the red-zone and getting only 6? Hmmm... Mebbe they had OUR playbook.

You say you arent forcing anyone to read your post, but youve gotta admit, your thread title is an attention getter. You have essentially created a negative rumor about our team. How did you expect this thing to play out? You are publicly asking the mods to comment on whether or not we are cheating? Really? Have you fully considered what you are asking? lol...

Outside of a few big passing plays, one of which was without a doubt due to a mistake on our part, we did a good job defensively the entire game.

The allegation is alive and well at AU. I've created nothing. Just thought I'd pass it along to hopefully have it refuted by someone in the know.

But you guys are wearing me out. I admit it -- I have it in for the team that I have loved my entire life.

Calm down.

By the third quarter the score should have been 42ish to 7... we made major gaffs and the barners capitalized on them. Fact they did not beat us outright, we shot ourselves in the foot. Nothing to see here. :)

I guess the jig is up. Wasn't supposed to spill the beans but since the news is out..... ESPN has done more than 1 auburn game this year, so Kirk Herbstreit has had the opportunity to spend quite a bit of time with GS & GM and earn their trust. He finally got them to explain this complicated signal system they use in detail.

Of course everyone knows how close he and CNS are, I mean really, who else would get by with addressing him as Nick all the time. Anyway, a couple of weeks ago he called up CNS and told him, "Look Nick, I really need to talk to you. So the arrangements were made for CNS to meet him at the airport in B'ham, where Herbstreit debarked the plane with his briefcase firmly cuffed to his wrist......

Actually, what I saw saturday was some well coached players playing discplined football. I saw players playing their assignment. I saw Dareus shadowing Newton rather than trying to run him down (much the same way one is coached to play one on one defense in basketball). What we saw saturday was hours of studying film, figuring out which of their 5 or 6 plays they run out of which formation and staying in the lanes to defend those plays. On the big pass plays (the ones that were brought in by players?) we saw a couple of blown coverages, mainly because of newton's propensity to run. On one TD pass we saw Mark Barron have to forego an interception that he was in perfect position on, to having to try to distract the receiver enough to hope he missed the catch. This was due to the fact (and you can see it when he got up off the ground after the play) that he could not lift his right arm. It was basically dangling at his side.

I'm surprised the AU coaching staff didn't notice the black helicopters with the giant letters "R-E-C" on the side flying around the practice field for the last two weeks. I would say I'm surprised that barners are complaining after a win but I'm not. You guys beat us, do you have to come up with an excuse for winning? Celebrate the win you guys pulled out yesterday and the fact you could be playing for a national title soon. Instead they're putting on their aluminum foil hats again and watching re-runs of the X-files on the grassy knoll.

You must consider the source. After all, this is coming from the same group of conspiracy theorists who believe the REC runs the world.

Three weeks...
And that Bama is the root of all things evil.:rolleye2:

And CNS has horns.

And the list goes on, and on, and on.

I agree 5 sacks and holding him to 39 rushing yards is a pretty good feat. I blame this loss on turnovers and going conservative the 2nd half, Saban preaches on finishing, and he let off the gas the 2nd half.

Jason
couldnt have said it any better at least someone else saw it too.

This ^^^^^

The real genesis of this is last year when Belichick got caught at it. Threads started up immediately on ITAT, the premier AU paranoid conspiracy forum, to the effect that Saban must be doing the same. I hope they continue to believe it. Having to shuttle plays in greatly cramps their style of offense. No mo meerkat...

If a team is dumb enough that their system allows for their signals to be stolen then so be it, as long as you're using a legal method, such as simple observation, for stealing them.

I'll give you an example. Although non-comparative to college football.

When I coached 11-12 year old Little League Baseball in Ocean Springs one of our biggest rivals was Biloxi, led by Jay Valmouth who is now the starting shortstop for USM, and a future high draft pick.

He could throw the curve and the fastball. Nobody could hit him. Best talent at that age I've ever seen

We faced them in the semi-finals of the state tournament.

Coaching third base I watched his pitching coach, his Dad, before every pitch.

After a couple of innings I figured out If he rolled his hand like.."C'mon"....it was a signal to Jay to throw a fast ball.

If he wiggled his hand back and forth like..."Whatever"...it was a curve.

So I called my team together and said.."When you're hitting...if you hear me yell encouragement like "Come on 11" it's a fastball...if I say "You can do it 22"...it's a curve".

Next thing you know we're slapping the ball all over and out of the ball park and beat their brains out.

Do I feel like I cheated? Hell no.

It wasn't my fault that their coach wasn't smart enough to keep me from figuring him out.

So, if we were "stealing their signals"...then Auburn shouldn't blame us, they should simply improve their method of sending in play calls.

That's really no different than discovering in film study that if the left Guard places his right foot back before the snap that it's a pass.

For goodness sakes the things people whine about lol

sip
