Bama/Texas matchups

Q

Secondary: Texas hands down, sorry, yes they give up yards but teams do not score on us through the air besides the A&M game. The starting 4 and 5 are the most talented group in the country as a whole. They rival our 05 group that sent 5 players to the NFL all of whom have started. Stats do no tell the story, like you guys know, the passing games of SEC teams are nothing to get excited about, while the BIG XII teams can toss the rock when clicking. Its perception based to even think about using stats. Talent wise...Texas hands down.

That statement says it all, you are right, when you play the defenses in the SEC the passing game will not look very good, that my friend is why I feel Texas struggles, very little running game against one of the top defenses in the nation from top to bottom, I hope you will come back after the game and lets discuss this further. I will definitely give cred to Texas if they do pull off the upset, just don't think they will have their way with the Tide, I expect it to be close for a Quarter, then I expect the tide to really run away with it.

We shall see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it will be a close game.
I think Texas will score on you, not alot, but we won't have to a ton just enough to be in the game in the 4th.
The Texas D is going to surprise you, you will get yards running but I really think you overestimate your passing ability against the secondary of Texas.
Anyone thinking you guys are going to roll is mistaken. This will be a great great game

I'd prefer to use Texas vs. The SEC history, which isn't much recently.
I know this. Arkansas BACKED OUT of playing us this year. I also know that we beat Saban last time we played him. I also know that despite how long he had to prepare, Saban still got beat by Utah last year.
Otherwise we can probably go down the line A beat B who beat C who beat D so therefore A is better than D... we know this isn't the case.

History will not tell the story. Stats will not tell the story. The story will be told when we play and thats it. We'll go back and forth until then... which is fun. I just don't want to hear about this CONFERENCE ......... Unless we played a big enough sample size against the SEC, you can't make a judgment call on which conference is better. We WISH we could play SEC teams every year. It just doesn't work out that way.
Ok, do you not remember the circumstances involving that game, our Outland Trophy winning Left Tackle Andre Smith was disqualified for the game and sent home just a few days before game time. That was a big distraction along with losing to Florida in the 4th Quarter, that was why we lost, the distractions, and not focusing on what needed to be focused on. We learned a lot in that last month, and came out this year with the resolve to finish this year, and Texas just happens to be in the way of the final destination, the elusive 13th MNC.

I for one hope that Texas does not come in underestimating Coach Saban and company. Remember that he taught Will Muschamp, so the teacher I am sure knows his tendancies as well as the other way around. But is the student as hard working and diligent on preparing for the game as the teacher? I think not, there is no one in college football that will work as hard and as long as Coach Saban and company will preparing for this chance to bring Bama back to the status as one of footballs elite programs.

I know I can hardly wait.

I believe we had three players out of position on offense and our best offensive player was missing. And Utah had a great game plan, but I don't think we'll ever be susceptible to that kind of football anymore, the quick pass game that is.

You hope your defense can slow our offense. A balanced attack is what Alabama brings to the table, and thats hard to stop. If Alabama's offense gets rolling this is going to be a tough game for Texas. Colt McCoy can't hurt us standing on the sideline.

Re: Q

true, but if your O makes any mistakes, Texas capitalizes on them. There's a reason we lead the nation (I think) in points scored on D. If your QB plays a PERFECT game, you guys will control the clock and limit our scoring chances. But I promise that Earl Thomas and Aaron Williams are going to make him sorry for putting the ball in the air! Especially after Earl got snubbed by the Thorpe (nothin against Berry), he's got more to prove.
In short I want you guys to throw as much as possible lol. Our run D will be decent vs your run O, but we will win with our pass D.
And I know you guys keep saying how balanced you are and how hard it is to stop, but our safeties play little role in run support anyways, unlike SEC safeties. That will minimize the effectiveness of PA and throwing when we expect run. Our DB's play pass first, and trust the front 7 to stuff the run. Just to give you something to ponder while predicting how confused and off balance your O will have our D.

you honestly believe your front 7 will be able to stop our running attack, when almost NONE of the SEC teams (who see alot of running) could do it with JUST their front 7? Face it, the SEC is run heavy. The Big 12 is pass heavy. you saying that your front 7 can stop a running attack the calibur of which they have not seen in season, without any help, would be tantamount to saying we will be able to hold all of your receivers one on one. That is just foolish. Mark my words, if Texas tries to block the run with only their front 7, you will lose. And lose big.

If yall can stop our run with only 7 in the box, yall will win. However, know that most teams haven't really stopped our rushing attack with 8 in the box. It comes down to the LOS for both sides; if yall only need 7 in the box, big advantage yall; if we get pressure on Colt with just 4 rushers, big advantage us.

we wont stop you guys, but we will do ok. good enough for you to not beat us by running.

and our corners Curtis Brown, Chykie Brown, and Aaron WIlliams are all tall and athletic enough to be left alone on pretty much anyone, letting us bring safeties up on third and short while still being ok against play aciton.
at least I hope thats the case, we'll find out on the field

You forgot to add that our 2nd string OT that took over for Andre (who was our starting LG) got hurt on our first possession, so we essentially had our 3rd strong LT and 2nd string LG the entire game on the side of the ball we were used to running behind. Even tho we had distractions, bottom line is that we were didn't come focused and Utah outplayed us. As you say, I think/ hope our players learned from that for this bowl game.

Re: Q

thats the game right there
yep and every SEC team had to play with at least 8 in the box (AU, among others used 9 a decent bit). On the other side, we usually have to bring 1 additional blitzer (albeit we have creative blitz packages), which could mean a big day for Colt. So one tendency favors us and the other hurts us. A toss up IMHO, but I think the team with the better D wins 9 out of 10, so I'd give us the edge overall.

How does UT's secondary stack up against Uf's? I really don't know alot about Texas but it seems that all their fans are predicting that the team that played USC a few years ago will show up at the same time Bama will field the team that played Utah.

nothing of the sort, we know Bama will bring it, it seems you guys think Texas will flop.

as for the secondary, I don't know much about the UF secondary.
This Texas group is very similar to the 05 group that now has 5 players in the NFL. They are younger than that group that won in 05, but the talent might be greater.
Earl Thomas is better than Michael Huff (Raiders, Thorpe) and Michael Griffin (Titans), who were both amazing for us. Earl should have won the Thorpe this year, but couldn't overcome the hype and name recognition of Berry
Aaron Williams is a faster version of Aaron Ross (Giants, Thorpe), they both play the ball amazingly well, but Aaron also has very very good top speed.
Chykie Brown and Curtis Brown are about as talented as Cedric Griffin (Vikings) and Terrel Brown (49ers), but they are taller.

The one player that isn't a great DB is Blake Gideon, but he has really stepped up his game this year and is doing great as a center fielder FS. He isn't mentioned with the others because the potential seems to be maxed out

Some stats for you guys on each of the DB's
http://www.texassports.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/2009-2010/teamcume.html#TEAM.IND
Earl Thomas: 8 ints for 149 yds, 2 TD, 71 total tackles, 1 FF, 24 Passes Defended
Blake Gideon: 5 ints for 31 yds, 56 total tackles, 10 Passes Defended
Aaron Williams: 3 ints, 41 total tackles, 2 FF, 9 Passes Defended
Chykie Brown: 2 ints 15 yds, 45 total tackles, 10 Passes Defended
Curtis Brown: 1 int, 77 yds, 1 TD, 52 total tackles, 1 FF, 1 block, 16
backups-
Ben Wells: 1 int
Nolan Brewster: 1 int

team total is 24 ints, 349 yds, 4 TDs

Texas has a highly ranked running Defense. I can't help but to point out the Big 12 is one of if not the weakest running conference in the FBS. Of all the teams in the Big 12 only 1 tem has a RB who averages 100 YPG. Daniel Thomas of Kansas State averages 105.42 YPG. He's the only one. The SEC has 11 guys that average 100 YPG. I can't help but believe Texas hasn't faced a team as commited to running the foortball as Bama will be on Jan 7th. To me this is a clear advantage to our team.

Well we all know that the Big 12 defenses for the most part can't tackle what makes us think the offenses can.;)

Seriously though...We welcome all Texas fans to this board and look forward to a great game. Like CNS said (paraphrase) any team that goes undefeated and gets to a championship game is gonna be pretty dang good and want to win just as much as you do.
