Link: Bama's Best BBQ

haha the two barbecue places I eat at the most are seeded against each other (Saw's in Homewood and Rusty's in Leeds)

I haven't tried Saw's yet, but the BBQ place that was there before it was pretty awful. It was very watery. I might give Saw's a try sometime since I work in Homewood.

I'm in Montgomery this week on business and I ate at the Jim 'N' Nicks here on Atlanta Hwy because I love the ones around B'ham.

Man what a let down, I got Baby Back's and they were hard as a brick.

Sure wasn't what I was expecting from them.

That's all on location.

Would have been better off to go down Atl Highway to Varsity, which is very similar to Full Moon.

Sam's Bar BQ is another popular place in Montgomery. Never been because I always forget about it trying to get a quick lunch.

I'm not very impressed with Archibalds. Meat was way too salty. My daughter goes to the Bell Center in Homewood. I drive past Saw's everyday & it's always packed. I will definitely be trying it out. Just haven't had a chance.

I do my own Q too. So I'm picky.

Thanks for the suggestions RTR.

Yeah, unfortunately after the old man died and his kids sold the place it went to crap. I gave the place a try more than once and the place just plain sucked. Hate to be so harsh but that is the truth. I almost asked for my money back the last time. That's how bad it was.

Oh I agree. I have never been a Dreamland fan.

Like I said in an earlier post I use one set of criteria when judging BBQ restaurant Q compared to backyard Q. Backyard Q SHOULD BE better than restaurant Q. So I curb my expectations when eating at a BBQ restaurant. I grade by the following:

1. Texture
2. Flavor
3. Taste
4. Price relative to the quality of the first three criteria

Dreamland consistently failed all four.

I once new a guy that attested "You can't get good BBQ from a joint with a health inspection grade higher than 84"....I wonder if he is still living.

I think I allowed my opinion of the previous place taint my opinion of Saw's, too. Then a cousin of mine prompted me to give it a try, and I have been going there about once a week for a half slab ever since.

If you hit Saw's after 1pm you can always get a seat. If you go after 2pm you can get your choice of table and get to know the folks there.

To me most restaurant stuff is lacking of good bark vs good backyard BBQ. That's my favorite part. Plus you get to taste what was done with the rub, etc.

dig pit in yard
put metal grate over pit
build up brick sides 2'- 3' on 3 sides
cover with sheet metal
cook it for 22-24 hrs

if they do that, it's already a winner in my book. ;)

or you could just go to the grocery and get the REAL good stuff:
