Ben Hansbrough transferring

Well, if we're talking about Stansbury talking to himself about being head and shoulders above CMG, it's a small wonder that I haven't heard of it. If it be true, I'd think he needs a mental health evaluation...

Not sure how to link other threads, but go to pg. 2 to the thread titled "MSU - The SEC West's Strongest Program."

It is filled with adoration for the mighty Stansburry.

I don't think it was necessarily praising Stansbury to the high heavens, mind you.

I think it was basically getting at the point that, say what you will about Stansbury, Mississippi State has been the winningest program in the SEC West since he became head coach. And that's a fact, you cannot dispute that.

That said, I think you also have to consider that the SEC West has been pretty weak over that same stretch too. Auburn basketball has never been anything special -- sans a couple of good years with Barkley and Chris Porter -- and they have generally been bad over that span. Alabama and LSU were both consistently decent, but neither Brady or Gottfried were able to match the successes of their predecessors (Dale Brown and Wimp, respectively). Beyond that, Ole Miss is traditionally the worst basketball team in the SEC, and that trend has continued. Arkansas was really good for a long time under Nolan Richardson, but that all fell apart and they haven't been anything overly special in a very long time now.

Without doubt, Stansbury has propelled MSU to the status of the top team in the SEC West, but you have to keep in mind that a lot of that has to do with how the SEC West has struggled over that time span. That's not trying to criticize what he has accomplished in Starkville, but given the state of the other five SEC programs, it didn't take a whole lot to be the best in the West.

I can understand him wanting to go to Florida, but why Arkansas? Makes no sense to me, but who am I?

I say two reasons:

(1) Arkansas does have a very good basketball tradition. They are arguably -- obvious discounting Florida's recent success -- the second best basketball program in the SEC, behind only Kentucky. They have a national championship, plus another national championship game appearance, and six trips to the Final Four. They won the old Southwest Conference championship 28 times, and three times they have been SEC Champions. Sufficed to say, it's a very good basketball tradition to step into, probably better than any other team in the SEC West.

(2) The Hogs are probably the top program in the SEC West right now. Auburn and Ole Miss still aren't anything special, and both Alabama and LSU are in a huge state of flux at the moment. Mississippi State has been the best program in the West for a while now, but with Jamont Gordon going pro and Hansbrough transferring, they may very well be passed now by Arkansas. The Hogs have made three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, and they have a great recruiting class lined up, not to mention a good young coach who figures to be in Fayetteville a long while.

Considering those two things, I could see it. He transfers away from MSU, and gets to the most tradition-rich program in the SEC West, and also most likely the best team in the West at the current moment.
