Bicycle Riders #2

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

I cannot wait to get mugged on it.
the other day, i rode from east point to the floyd rd trailhead on the comet and back. the connection is almost complete, there is one easy 2ish mile section on the road just north of the big rail yard, then you're back on the connector. they should have that section connected by the end of this year

I thought part of the comet trail was closed near Nickajack?

we were surprised to find it was closed at oakdale. we rode up that section a little ways (there's a hole in the fence) and turned around when we saw the heavy machinery where they were stabilizing the bank. we were able to backtrack and loop around through a couple of neighborhoods to hook up with the trail on the east-west connector near mavel rd. i think they will have that section open again sometime in august.

the section from mavel to floyd rd was a complete crap show. i probably won't ride that section again

August 4th was supposed to be the date of opening back up. Don't know if they are still on schedule. I have been hiking and rucking elsewhere over biking. I plan on getting back to biking soon.

i think that's the date that was on the sign we saw at oakdale. This was two weekends ago, so that's probably still good.

a ton of kudzu has grown over the closed trail, they're going to have their work cut out for them just clearing that out

fyi, if you haven't been back out there, this section of the comet connector is open again. i rode up there yesterday. they cleared all of the kudzu as well

Went there this morning. Some piece of garbage broke some glass at the bridge over the railroad tracks on Atlanta Road. 2 flat tires had to walk it back.

Any tips on dealing with dogs on bike rides? They are getting bigger and sound meaner. I had a big chocolate lab chase me today. I don’t know if it is the chase for him or is he going to take a chomp out of me.
Two more options:
1. Spray your water bottle in their eyes. It really does stop them from pursuing you.
2. Slow down and do a u-turn if you can safely. Dogs really like the chase, and slowing down often defuses the situation.
3. If all else fails for a repeat offender, bring a giant hand full of treats to leave all over the road and sides of the road. This is the nuclear option that will quickly teach the owner not to leave their dog outside.

if you haven't heard of them, i've heard good things about schwalbe tires (haven't used them yet, though). they have a few versions that have puncture protection.
