The Big Spring Cafe in Huntsville has been serving up some of the best greasy hamburgers, chili and slaw dogs anywhere around for a very long time. This comes as close as I have found to their hot dog slaw recipe.
Cabbage, (1 pound, or just buy a bag of plain shredded cabbage)
Ketchup, (1/4 cup or more acording to taste)
Sugar, (3 tablespoons)
White Vinegar, (1 tablespoon)
Salt, (1/2 teaspoon)
Pepper, (1/2 teaspoon)
Ground red pepper (1/4 teaspoon or to taste)
Red-Hot sauce to taste (Tabasco, Crystal, Franks, etc)
Chop cabbage fine. Mix all dry ingredients into the chopped cabbage, and let sit for about 20 minutes.
Add the wet ingredients and mix well. Refrigerate over night or before serving.
Make your dog anyway you like it, grilled, steamed or boiled. Add slaw and top with hot sauce.
