I had heard this a couple days ago from a family member who is in position to know, but wasn't going to mention it here unless I'd heard it from the media. They did say he is getting stronger, but of course they also need to find a match for him.
It's been known since he was transported to Duke that this was the only solution. However, there was no reason to believe he would be strong enough until a few days ago, when he unexpectedly started to gain strength and a glimmer of hope appeared...

A friend of mine underwent a double lung transplant due to damage from chlorine gas inhalation. It is traumatic, to say the least, with many factors of chance involved. Best wishes to Coach Moore.

And I'll bet he wasn't 73 years old...
No, mid-50's, and it was (and is - it has lifelong implications) still a monster. He went to Houston, as anyone in my area who can does.

Coach Moore will definitely need our prayers. I trust those of you close to him will relay our thoughts and support.

Yes, it would be even more of a monster at his age (or mine). BTW, the family still does not want the exact condition made public and I understand why they feel that way. It's come to my attention that some very prominent boogs are trying to spread the rumor that it's lung cancer. It is not. In fact, if it were lung cancer, he would not be being considered for a lung transplant in any event. Stupid boogers...

I would say other words besides "stupid", like "insensitive" and "uncaring"...

His age, of course, is a big concern. I wasn't aware they did transplants on people that age. but I did some Googling and found a number of articles about people in their 70s who have had lung transplants and are doing quite well.

I hoped that Rich would be a candidate...

I noted Bill Battle said he wasn't going to change anything until he had a grasp on what is happening now but I have to say I'm impressed that he has the gumption to bring up the issue of the student attendance. I feel I do have some perspective on this since I attended Alabama just after the Bryant Era.

While I was a student the games were well attended. With the exception of the greek section the student section was full and at no point in my time as a student did Alabama have a championship caliber team. The issue we had was fan apathy and it was actually the non student fans who were the problem. Bear had spoiled them so badly they didn't understand when things didn't go our way. Together with the 85 rule things had evened out more and beating teams 45-0 and having your 3rd string in by the 3rd quarter were no longer a possibility. There was no croud noise at all, fans were not engauged at all. Bryant Denny Stadium was not a challenge for the visiting team. It was not a great game atmosphere.

Now today I think we have a bit of the opposite. Nick Saban has spoiled the students, they have known only success and they are apathetic, only being interested in the big games. The regular fans however remember how much it sux to lose. They have a blood lust for victory that hasn't wained one little bit despite the recent success, because that's how much it sux to lose. It sticks with you. What was it? 6 years we lost to Auburn. I and most fans will NEVER get over that. The students were just too young when all that went down.

I don't know how to fix this, but I do know the first step is to bring it up and not worry about who it upsets, So for Bill Battle I appreciate that he is on it.
