Re: Billy Clyde Gillespie gone?

There supposed to "decide" tomorrow. I think he's gone, he was a bad hire to start with. They're supposedly going to make another run at Donovan, though I can't see him accepting after already turning them down before.

Re: Billy Clyde Gillespie gone?

A Louisville TV station said he was gone earlier this evening and KY then immediately issued a statement of denial . It just does not look very promising at all for CBG .

Re: Billy Clyde Gillespie gone?

so our worst nightmare is still possible......Billy Clyde fired, uk convinces Donovan, uf gets Grant; which of course leaves with backup plan coach 'x'.

Not saying that Donovan would go to uk b/c I don't think he will....but it could happen. Like I said in an earlier thread, we do NOT want to be going up against uk for a top flite coach. Despite the fact that it is a fishbowl of massive proportions (like BAMA football), it's still one of "those" jobs that you dream of.

Re: Billy Clyde Gillespie gone?

This looks like it's going to happen. There are so many reports now that Donovan is in Lexington right now it's not even funny. I guess we can kiss the possibility of Grant goodbye. His silence deafening. This is pretty frustrating for a baskteball fan.

I really wish we would have just waited and gone after Anderson. I don't know why the higher ups don't like him although it is rumored to be around something that occurred during his time at UAB. I've heard anything from money related to graduation rates, so who knows. What I do know is that the best basketball coach we could possibly get is Mike anderson and last night was proof positive of that. This whole thing is disheartening and frustrating.

To people "in the know": Is there any way at all the personal or professional issues between UA and Anderson could ever be worked out? Seems like they could, if they were really committed to finding the best possible coach for Bama. That's just my opinion, but I'm a huge Anderson fan and it is incredibly frustrating to keep hearing that we won't go after such a talented coach for reasons that no one will talk about without using anything other than vague comments about "issues".

I've commented on CMA several times in several threads. I'm beginning to think that it's not that folks are not reading me - it's hard core CMA fans don't like what I'm saying, but I'm not going to keep saying it over and over...

Maybe you need a sticky! When you click on the "basketball" forum link, it would take you that sticky which is written in super large font? Only after you clicked the "I have read this and understand why Anderson is not a candidate" button could you then proceed to the forum. :)

Re: Billy Clyde Gillespie gone?

People just need to let go of the Anderson thing...

Back to Gillispie, several reports this morning were that he had been fired, but the UK SID released an official statement denying that the decision had been made. And now Andy Katz is reporting that we should know something on his status by today.

Personally, I think he gets fired before the day is over, but we'll just have to see how it plays out. No one really knows for certain right now, and if you read the UK boards, this has the feel of a soap opera.

Re: Billy Clyde Gillespie gone?

I'm not sure he's totally out of the picture (unless his NCAA success has done it). I can see his being hired on an extremely short leash, so far as academics and player character is concerned. If Grant says "no," I think the field is open again and CMA is probably in it then...

I hate to mention the f word, but could the prediction that nick (that's been calling the f'baum show) has been making for the last 2 or 3 weeks be coming to fruition? He's standing by his story...Izzo.

Kentucky couldn't lure a "top end" coach last time they had an opening and I personally don't see that changing this time around either. I believe they'll set their sights on Travis Ford, he seems to be the most likely candidate IMO.
