What do you guys think of the team's body language over the past couple of weeks? Doesn't look like there's much energy on the sidelines...guys look beat. Thoughts?

My wife & I where just talking about this. Hopefully their just worn out from getting everyone best shot while #1, but they've look uninspired these last few games. That was a tough stretch of games to start the season for this young defensive team, so we're hoping the bye-week gives Bama what the need.

Bama just needs to beat Tennessee next week, and get to that bye-week to get their legs under them, get refocused on the prize in front of them, and the coaches need to figure out who we want to be on offense. I know what I want Bama's offense to be, but I'm not on the sidelines........:frown:

I thought the loss to USC would get the hunger back for this team but it doesn't look that way.We will get the Vols best shot in Neyland next week.

This is the SEC, we get everyone's best shot every game. I love all these amateur psychologists who come out of the woodwork after a game. I trust Saban and the staff.

the O has some serious issues, the D played with passion need to find a mean streak. the O needs to find something, no fire, not pushing anybody around, all the accolades and praise seems to have gone to somes head.

I am not sure any one is saying they do not trust Saban and the staff, they are making an observation. You do not not have to be a professional psychologist to read body language or any kind of expert for that matter. Body language is used in every day conversation.

We use it everyday, with our children, employees, potential bosses, if a person says everything is fine but "appears" sullen you would want to ask more questions. When the team is sitting on the bench with a lead and hanging heads you have to wonder and/or ask what is going on? Is this because the coach said sit do not stand, or are they tired. I am sure the coach and staff is aware of the body language too, observing this as a fan can help keep the game in perspectives, young men, practicing, playing, taking classes, and trying to navigate life in general. Let's Roll Tide.

Coach Saban has argued that great players are self-motivated. That they don't need an external factor to get them going. I have always wondered if Coach Saban was discounting human nature a bit too much, but I get his point.

Does this team lack leaders? I think that Upshaw is developing into that role. Barron seems to be a solid leader in the secondary. Dareus is an awesome talent - not sure how vocal he is. On the offensive side of the ball, we have essentially the same players from last season. Did the loss of Mike Johnson and Colin Peek really hurt us that much?

I am not sure that a lack of leadership is the problem. That said, I don't have a better idea. Maybe we really are just worn down and need the bye.

This team kinda reminds me of the Rocky III movie.

Rocky was on top, world heavyweight champ, and then up and coming/hungry for a shot Clubber issued the challenge.

Rocky trained like he only needed to show up to win - lots of glitz and glam, autographs, kisses on the cheek, music and frivolity ... and then reality hit.

Of course, Bama was going to have some depth issues this year obviously, but I also believe all the hype - the "Training Days," full feature movies, magazine cover after magazine cover, and all the trappings of fame probably eroded some of the hunger from this team in the off season. Their heads are clearly not where they need to be ...as evidenced, in part, by the body language (and player comments) mentioned.

Now throw in the big bulls eye, a late break in the season, and six teams with off-weeks prior, and the challenge is magnified each week.

Can a win at UT and off week help? I certainly believe so, but they can't go into the bye with a loss to a team that just got torpedoed by Georgia, or all bets are off.

Success breeds complacency and their drive is low to want it looks like to me. They need leadership from the guys who remember what it was like before to get them back on their A game. Saban said we want teams to dread knowing we have to play Alabama on their schedule.

More media access to the program was thought to help in recruiting. But it has its consequences it appears. The recruits will come as long as you keep winning and showing them where you fit in.

I remember 3 instances where the inside access was granted.

2002 - Week leading up to the GA game, I think, ESPN followed us around leading up to Gameday. Coach Dye says GA wasnt man enough to beat us. We get beat.

2010 - Training Days episode seems to have left the players with a hangover regarding how good they are. Result Lose to SC and largely have a team struggling with its identity right now.

Probably a little off but the whole series of shows highlighting the Hoover programs certainly had its ill-effects. Accusations of grade changing and HC keeping up 2 families, etc.

Personally, I think the PR policy should work in reverse. If you are down and trying to build your program up, you should invite any media attention you can get (aka what Aub has done). When you are on or near the top, you should limit the media access as much as possible to keep players focus and overstating their value to the team.

Someone who saw the team enter the WB stadium for the USC game said that the team "trudged" along and into the stadium. There's just no getting around recognizing that they're beaten down and tired right now...
