  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

So Boeing is going to sell out while they have 2 astronauts stuck in space? This might be a smart business decision but how about we wait on that until we get these 2 people home.
The quicker the people who caused this are replaced the better.

And at this point, nothing will happen before the astronauts are back on earth. This isn't the first time astronauts have been stranded on the ISS. The reality is this is a good move as Boeing has proven its inability to compete.

If there was a wager, I would bet that Starliner becomes space trash. It aint coming back to earth...

Yes, but I don't think Boeing will be able to get it back home.
I don't think there's any option btt to try - the ISS will be used until it's scheduled decommissioning in late 2030, until which that dock will be needed (as per NASA) and I can't imagine them leaving Starliner floating aimlessly up there at the same operating orbit as the ISS.

Back to the topic, I did fly one way from San Diego to Oakland on a 737-700 without incident. I had never flown Southwest before. It was sort of like a "cattle call." I found that, for a premium, we could move into a boarding class consisting of the first 15. I took #s 10 and 11. We sort of dodged a bullet. We checked out of the Mission Valley Hilton on Tuesday AM. Yesterday, they went on strike...

ULA is a JV that, as far as I know, only does launching services. They're completely separate from the part of Boeing that appears to have misdesigned/misconstructed Starliner.

We do need an alternative to SpaceX (other than the Russians). I don't see how we get one other than Boeing at this point. (And I'm not a Boeing fan going back to my days as an Air Force attorney.)

NASA head Nelson has stated that Boeing will be a second provider along with SpaceX, still.

Agreed, here's hoping some of the (many) other start-ups can come along like SpaceX did.

Thousands of Boeing workers walked off the job on Friday after rejecting a contract offer from the company, a potentially costly disruption as Boeing tries to increase airplane production after a safety crisis.

The strike, the first at Boeing in 16 years, is expected to bring operations to a halt in the Seattle area, home to most of Boeing’s commercial plane manufacturing. The slowdown could also further disrupt the company’s fragile supply chain.

The head of Boeing's defense and space business is out as company tries to fix troubled contracts

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Boeing on Friday replaced the head of its troubled defense and space business, which has struggled with money-losing government contracts and embarrassing setbacks involving its Starliner space capsule.

The company said Theodore “Ted” Colbert III was removed immediately as president and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security and replaced temporarily by the division's chief operating officer, Steve Parker. A search is underway for a permanent replacement.

I wonder why it took so long?
