We've had a few Bryant disciples...therein may lie your answer.I don't understand why we wouldn't have had a Saban disciple as a head coach after Saban. All these coaches get it, I don't hear the same stuff coming from Deboer.
Honest question and want honest opinions for answers: if we did hire a Saban disciple to follow him which would you suggest hiring and would they have come at that time (given the time frame of Saban's retirement and recruiting, etc).I don't understand why we wouldn't have had a Saban disciple as a head coach after Saban. All these coaches get it, I don't hear the same stuff coming from Deboer.
No, but you don't just assume a Saban disciple would come in and keep it going like Saban did, either. Like the other poster said about the after Coach Bryant era: we hired Bryant disciples and for the most part they just didn't work out. You can't just make the assumption that they will.Okay so just nuke the winning mentality of the program to make a point?
I really like Coach Key and he’s on the verge of making GT a legitimate ACC upper tier team.
I think we just wanted to hire the guy who looked to have the most potential to keep things going and on paper KD seemed to fit that need.Okay so just nuke the winning mentality of the program to make a point?
Probably so but there are BOT members who would pour broken glass on the road to keep him from getting near Tuscaloosa.Kiffin would have practically crawled to Tuscaloosa...
So yeah, there are some out there that would have taken the job.
IIRC, Saban favored KD to take the position...I think we just wanted to hire the guy who looked to have the most potential to keep things going and on paper KD seemed to fit that need.
Odds are always high though that the guy following a Legend fails to live up to that standard.
KD may or may not right the ship but If he doesn’t we at least need to look at guys who understand the SEC this time and demand more from themselves and the players.
True but I’d take a Gene Stallings right now… lolWe've had a few Bryant disciples...therein may lie your answer.
Kiffin wasn't and isn't an option.Kiffin would have practically crawled to Tuscaloosa...

I didn't advocate for him. Just saying that he is a disciple that would have taken it if offered.Kiffin wasn't and isn't an option.
That may be but we're talking viable options. If you KNOW someone wouldn't get a call for a lot of reasons then he's not viable.I didn't advocate for him. Just saying that he is a disciple that would have taken it if offered.
Smart wouldn’t and Lanning passed on it.
There are probably others.![]()
I'd still want to sign Lanning...first choice. Key would now be 1B for me.I think we just wanted to hire the guy who looked to have the most potential to keep things going and on paper KD seemed to fit that need.

That would have guaranteed he wouldn’t be overshadowed.Just remember that when Saban left LSU, two of the names he recommended to AD Skip Bertman were Houston Nutt and Will Muschamp.

Kiffin hurt too many feelings.Kiffin would have practically crawled to Tuscaloosa...
