I ask at least one a day, in my office. Children of alcoholics/drug addicts or any other chaotic-functioning parent grow up having problems. They usually end up being quite different from their parents, but often so neurotic and damaged that they struggle everyday in their internal emotional lives. Not all of them, but many, many of them. They are the bread and butter of my psychiatric practice.
We don't know if Britney loves these kids or is even capable of loving them the way a mother should. All we assume is based on what behavior she shows the public. And based on what I've seen, I'd say she's got a personality disorder, a substance dependence problem and a mood disorder (which may or may not be due to the substances). That doesn't mean she's incapable of loving her kids, but it does mean that the most important person in her life is most likely to be herself first and everyone else a distant second. You can take that to the bank. I see it everyday. And it's the children that pay the price for her chaos.
"A drunken mother is better than no mother." Probably. However, a stable mother, father, grandparent, aunt, uncle or foster/adoptive parent is light years better than a drunken parent any day of the week.
Someone needs to stop being intimidated by her star power and start acting in the childrens' best interest immediately. That involves at least temporary loss of visitation for ol' Brit Brit.
