I think that Saban needs to bring in someone from outside to help him identify the tendencies that other coaches have identified and are attacking. It needs to be someone not afraid to tell Saban the hard truth, and someone who he will actually listen to.

This team needs to self-scout and then make some changes.
Agree. We are too predictable. Have you ever noticed that the teams that have the most success against us are purposely unpredictable? The days of lining up and using your superior talent to win are over. These days you use imagination and good schemes to put your talent in the best position to win.

Teams have gotten better in the SEC. They got tired of being embarrassed.

Is our "adjustment" (to them getting better) being seen in having BOB call games like NFL offensive often operate? Someone speculated this a while back...that CNS thinks it appeals to the recruits to prepare them for the NFL, eventually.

But, even though teams have improved, I still think the talent level between schools like Bama, Oh. St., Georgia and just a handful of other schools is still insanely better and we are not using that talent to exploit mismatches the way we use to under BOB.

Unfortunately, I doubt it changes this year.

That's got to change with the next OC!

I didn't want to start a whole new thread with this thread already in place, but a few have suggested (they wish) CNS just replace BOB right now.

FWIW, I don't see that happening, but just fun giggles and grins, if you could hire your dream OC right now who would it be???

(They don't have to be currently unemployed right now; they could already be a HC or OC somewhere else)...GO!

Warren Ruggiero, OC at Wake Forest. The guy is putting up numbers in a Power 5 conference. I know it's the ACC, but he's not exactly working with 5 star talent at Wake either. They averaged around 45 a game last year.

Take that stupid WR / Tunnel screen play out of the playbook forever. We can get the same result if we just have Bryce back up two yards and take a knee. Will save some time.

And we are tipping it off massively. Sooner or later some db is going to jump that route and run out the other end of the stadium.
I keep waiting for them to fake the block on the DB and the blocking WR to take off down the seam. I fear I may die of suffocation if I hold my breath waiting.

Yep. 2nd choice would be Kiffin.

Of the more realistic possibilities (i.e. not a current HC): Kendall Briles, Phil Longo, Doug Meachem, Todd Monken.
Garrett Riley would be interesting. Though probably not realistic
Why these guys...for us who don't recognize the names...what do they do with their offense that would make you want them at Bama?

Not an expert but here is what I know about each

- Garrett Riley is the current OC of TCU and former OC of SMU. He came to TCU from SMU with Sonny Dykes. He's also the younger brother of Lincoln Riley.

Idk a ton of detail about his offense. He runs some version of the Air Raid (played under Leach). He is one of the guys that focuses on simplicity and getting the ball to playmakers.

He also heavily focuses on changing his offense year to year to fit personnel. And focuses on the run game more than you'd think and seems to lean on it when needed.

- Monken is Georgia's OC. He's been pretty impressive since he's been there. I don't see him leaving Georgia to be our OC. He's also an Air Raid guy originally.

- Doug Meacham - Idk anything about him really.

- Phil Longo - Hes the UNC OC since Mack Brown got there and was the Ole Miss OC before that. Again...also an Air Raid guy. He obviously had a lot of success at Ole Miss and has been fantastic for UNC. He's pretty interesting. He is hyper focused on efficiency and does a lot of analytical self assessing.

- Kendall Briles - Son of Art Briles. Was at Baylor with his dad. He then went to FAU with Kiffin and then hopped around and is now Arkansas' OC. Idk as much about his offense because I believe it's somewhat unique. But it tends to move very fast.

I would think someone from the 49ers or Dolphins, those guys are getting college creative at the NFL level. While I realize the head coaches are the de facto offensive coordinators, the coaches around them have picked up a think or two I imagine.

I love the description of Riley! Sounds like what a college OC should be doing, if he's not!
