Can We Take a Moment to Admit Our Idiocy in the Offseason?

I was fine with Rees and Steele. The pre-season buzz and MTSU game were a bit of fool's gold given the lack of experience at key positions like QB and LT, and we shouldn't have been that surprised when our guys lost to a veteran TX team (who, by the way, I think we'd beat pretty handily now) in game 2.

Rees was dealt a tough hand with a green QB and a porous OL at the season's start (remember those shots of an exasperated TR in the press box against TX?). Their quick improvement has helped him get a much better handle on how to use these guys effectively.

After how they started, they have everything to play for in November. Major kudos to the players and the coaching staff.
I always thought Texas would get the win. New OC, still unfamiliar with the players. Inexperienced QB that had not gotten the coaching he needed and now a new OC to boot. Say what you will but Dan Enos worked wonders with Hurts. What was it 80% of the production on offense gone from the year before? A freshman LT in the SEC? That is a recipe for disaster. No clear cut proven WR. You have to wonder if Bama played USF in week 2 and Texas in week 5, what would the outcome be?

It has been frustrating. but, it has not been boring that is for sure.

Does this include the deleted posts?
I don’t delete posts after the fact whether my opinion is wrong or right . So if anyone wants to dig up then go ahead. There is probably plenty of material on the complaint threads and other threads. The only time I do delete is when a conversation is on the border of sparring or there is an immediate answer to it.

Personally I feel that if I’m going to dig up past goofy threads on others then I should leave the ability for others to do to me. But it requires more effort than many are willing to commit to.

Boy when we have a great moment and are full of excitement leave it to the sunshine pumpers to bring up old wounds in a broad thread to bring us back down….

There is way too much to unpack so I will address some that are just wrong.

1) No one knew how the quarterback battle was going to turn out until after the USF game including the staff. Sure by Texas there was probably a general feeling but it was far from clear cut. They went out and got Buchner because both Milroe and Simpson had horrible springs. There is verifiable.

Milroe had a horrible 2nd scrimmage and throughout camp Buchner was gaining serious ground. This could be a case of either a guy playing tight because he is looking over his shoulder or a different player in practice and game. Who really knows.

2) The coordinator hires are mostly because everyone was tired of the last 5 years being the most talented team in the nation but coming up short because of coaching. But treating both positions as the same is not giving proper context of why many had issues (This is one I didnt)

- Offense- Lets start here. I think generally noone really had any crazy expectations or a short list for the job. So I think most were okay with anyone. However when Grubb accepted the job and then 24 hrs later decided to stay I think more people had issue with it. Tommy was always a good pick, however I know some had, and still have issues with him. But the guy comes in and doesnt know who his quarterback is going to be until September. The guy draws up some amazing plays, but our execution hasnt always been there.

-Defense- Well this one is the more contentious one. Its more because Golding had given us some of the worst defensive embarrassments ever, and it was a position that many looked as the most important item to address. There were 3 schools of thought to address this: 1) Just find someone that can make adjustments and simplify the system 2) Find the flavor of the month amongst DCs and 3) The Pruitt Cultists. Groups 2 and 3 were probably the majority of the fanbase and it didnt help that guys like Dodd and Pate were flaming the fires in that direction. In the End we got what we needed and hopefully Groups 2 and 3 can be happy with the results.

Anyways people not pleased with the coordinator picks is very normal amongst fans.

3) dynasty dead… I’m kinda with @RollTide_HTTR I think that may depend on the interpretation of what the dynasty is. The days of just expecting to just to get to Atlanta are over let alone having a realistic expectation of making it to a national championship. So in that context I can see it being over, but in the common usage of it by eeyores no.
Love being a “Sunshine Pumper.” SEC Champions 2023.

Why do some fans do this? Celebrate together. The enemy is out there, not in here.
Well it’s because…. you know I’m just taking the high road this time and if myI was wrong and this team is special thread was not enough for some then that’s on them.

We won a SEC championship, stopped Georgia, and maybe are playing for bigger prizes. So I really don’t care about obsessions and grudges at this time. RTR

I don’t care about the things people said about this team, what bothers me is the week three posts from some well known members of this board that stated Nick was over the hill, and should step aside for the good of the program. Those bother me. I will say don’t let it happen again, but I know it will. But this is a topic for the end of the year

This thread is why we can’t have nice things. I was a doubter when it came to Milroe and the oline. I’ve never seen a QB improve like this in season. It was wild. Why would any of us think it would happen when we haven’t seen it before, ever. I’m so happy for the guy and always want Bama players to succeed. Why can’t we all just celebrate instead of resurrecting this thread for some I told you so nonsense when Bama just overcame all the odds to show Georgia that daddy’s back.
