Cecil Hurt article for Sunday (Link)

Re: Cecil Hurt article for tommorrow (Link)

never say that :)

i thought we had a stable full of running backs. then we didn't get ford, lost coffey and upchurch to injury. and i think sharrief has been injured at some point.
Yeah, my point was that I'd rather lose Marve than keep Shula...

Re: Cecil Hurt article for tommorrow (Link)

I think the word "hamartia" defines Shula very well, and we have seen it in playcalling and team management.

I didn't know this but seriously I was told Shula's major at the Capstone was "Labor Management." I wonder if his teachers are still around? Irony?

"harmartia" is the Greek word which we translate as "sinful" in English. Surely you aren't saying his tenure has been that bad?:)

Re: Cecil Hurt article for tommorrow (Link)

Sounds like Cecil thinks he is out. Anyone else draw that conclusion?

Yep...I think so.Good article by Cecil, and he touched on something that I felt was CMS undoing almost from the beginning. I understand to a point CMS need for privacy, but if you are a HC for a major university, you have to have that ability to communicate effectively with reporters. You can't just close yourself off, and not convey what is going on in certain situations. CMS is a nice guy, but he has always been too aloof and detached.

I would say "Thlipsis" describes the past six seasons.

This past season was "Abussos"

This week has the potential to be "Thaumastos"

Re: Cecil Hurt article for tommorrow (Link)

This is the most damning statement in the article.
I would agree. If that statement is true, then it shows gross mismanagement, and I'm afraid Shula has got to go.
To look at the performance of the o-line and not feel that major changes are needed shows ineptitude that is unacceptable. Loyalty, yes, but also ineptitude in management.

I always felt that Mike Shula had this crazed, almost kamikaze like loyalty thing to his assistants that would eventually cost him his job. I appreciate loyalty. 99.99% of the time, it's a very admirable trait but when it's about to cost you your job and you refuse to see it, you're in trouble. Well, CMS is in real trouble.

Re: Cecil Hurt article for tommorrow (Link)

hamartia in english literature means a tragic flaw, and that flaw I would say is his unwillingness to change or adapt.

Re: Cecil Hurt article for tommorrow (Link)

If what Cecil says in the article is true and I have every reason to believe that it is, are there any Shula supporters left here at TideFans? I would sincerely hope not. It is in the program's best interest to part ways with Mike Shula right now.

Re: Cecil Hurt article for tommorrow (Link)

I really thought that once the changes were discussed with Mal, that Shula would choose to save his job and make the needed changes to the program. He would at least SEE where it would take him (to stay or go), but at least he would have shown a good faith effort to remain. Based upon what Cecil has said, I am baffled and bewildered at Shula's lack of flexibilty and believe wholeheartedly that he should go.
If you will recall Earle's statements two weeks ago after the MSU debacle, you will remember that it would be possible that Shula would cut his own throat by refusing to make a change in the staff... based on his legendary stubborness and loyalty to the people closest to him.

The absolute worst thing about this is his stubborness to get rid of the people who are not getting the the job done could end up costing EVERYONE their jobs, even the Coaches that are doing a good job. That almost equates to getting the whole platoon killed to save a few. Of course the consequences are much less severe, but it is the same principle -- lack of leadership!

Yeah, Mike's idea of staff changes is to take a coach who's proven he's incompetent coaching special teams and reassign him to the single most lacking sub-unit on our team (OT). Nice call.

You're loyal to your family and to your employers/superiors. You reward your subordinates for their effort and/or loyalty.

Yah, but I don't think you reward your subordinates who have hurt your job security. I may reward someone that is loyal, but if an understudy costs my company thousands of dollars, you don't belong to that company. You can be loyal, but if you fail the company, you should be fired. Connelly, and Ungerer should be fired. Shula has failed as a play caller and therefore should be fired as a playcaller. If there is not new coach, CBC should be fired, CDU should be fired, and Shula should relinquish play calling. Pretty simple.
