Even if you are only rushing three from the front seven positions, most coaches will still refer to bringing a corner or safety as the fourth rusher a blitz.

However, even when running a 4-3 defensive scheme, coaches will rarely if ever refer to it as a blitz when you rush only two defensive linemen (dropping the others into coverage) plus two linebackers.

Linebackers do blitz all the time - when five or more players are rushing...

in a defense that normally uses four defensive linemen to rush, a blitz can be created by adding one or more linebackers
