You mean - after all this "He didn't say it," he really DID say it??? :D I thought I saw little kids wandering around in the background. Next thing you know, they'll be teaching those little kids to shoot birds. Wait, they already do... :D

Well, what the @#!! can you expect from a $%^#@*& coon!$$?

So, Ole Potty Mouth Les seeks forgiveness, eh? Maybe if he crawls in a hair shirt and ashes to the Capstone, and bangs his head on the sidewalk 1,200 times, then I'll think about it.:p :conf2:

Well, I was shooting AT quail by that age, with my H&R 410 single shot. If I'd shot the kind of bird I was talking about, my dad would have killed me, for sure... :) We have here a tale of two coaches, each with an indiscretion. I like the way our guy handled it...

everyone has made such a big deal about the horror of profanity around children. sure, it's not good to use bad language around children, but it's not like its the worst thing in the world. if people are so concerned about bad language, then i'd suggest never taking your kid to a football game.

whether miles used profanity is, to me at least, not the real issue. the issue to me is that he acted like a man with a serious inferiority complex and tried to overcompensate for his lack of security with a bunch of phony bravado.

i didn't really think anything about him one way or the other prior to watching the video of the bash, but after seeing it, he seems a bit off to me.

Re: Coach Miles Profanity

These are all cases of much ado about nothing.

Saban shouldn't have said it, but he did... because he is setting an example.
If Miles said it, he shouldn't have... because he is setting an example.

Cowherd is not an example, so he can say what he wants... You can always turn the dial... Any publicity is good publicity for radio show hosts.

LSU fans who act offended are funny because if Les Miles told the same joke, then people would have laughed, and if Saban would have said f'n LSU, then Bama fans would have cheered.

Geez..
Wake up and smell the coffee. Saban was not and is not setting an example when he is off-the-record! And frankly what example is he setting by saying coonass? The entire region in Louisiana between Lafayette and Lake Charles is commonly referred to as coonass country. Again, WHO CARES? I say he not only should have said it, he should have said it publicly once it did hit the media. He should have stood up there and said that he lived in LA and it was a commonly used word and was in no way offensive to anyone other than this one moron Finebaum interviewed.

We accept your apology Fishhead:biggrin2:
I feel no need to apoligize, however I do prefer to eat crow while it's warm, so I'm eating!

In Fishhead's defense, the media didn't do their job on this one. It was left as an unconfirmed rumor.

It blows my mind how long it took the media to verify this. We've been on these boards for over a week now debating "did it or didn't it happen" and the reporters (and there were some there with tape recorders) have left it alone.

Meanwhile it's been a slow news week on the college football sites: Some lady said something bad about Mustain and Malzhan in an email, Arkansas AD might retire someday, Weiss is suing the surgeon who saved him from morbid obesity, etc.

Granted it's not much of a story, but I don't see how Les Miles cursing in front of kids is less of a story than the goings-ons of Charlie Weis' stomach.
Thank you for the defense.

There must be some awfully deaf people at the LSU bash. I read so and so and so and so never heard it. IT does not matter except for this is a BAMA sight and an LSU fan is trying to convince the masses it was never said! Why would anyone waste their time if THEY thought it was NOT true. And why on earth would a Coach apologize if he did not say the F word. Do not try and convince people if you do not know the truth yourself. This story had a life only because the truth had not come out yet. I will give LSU fans credit, no one was talking on their side of the issue except the ones trying to convince BAMA it never happened. :BigA:

What we've had (up until this reality check) is LSU fans taking every thing Saban does and says and comparing it to how Miles "would of handled it" or "Would of said it" or "Wouldn't of said it at all" etc. They continually say how much more "character" Miles has than Saban and how much "better" of a "person" he is etc.

When in fact neither one of these coaches (or many others) are leading any Sunday School classes or prayer meetings. It's time some folks get over the morality urinating contest, over the bitterness, over the "slap in the face" type attitude and move on. I think Miles proved he won't be walking on water, healing the sick or raising the dead any time soon.

Re: Coach Miles Profanity

Jimmy Ott was repeating what he was told. This rumor went through the crowd and media like wildfire. Doesn't make it true. People will believe what they want to. The person I talked to was there and I know him to be honest. If he had said it, I would be on here saying he should not have. But I choose to believe my friend.Charles Hanigriff, another radio personality who works for LSU radio, also was next to the stage, said it NEVER happened If CLM had said this, you can bet it would have been recorded and played everywhere, like CNS coonass comment. Just my opinion.:)
Looks like the makings of a conspiracy.

It's amazing that there has been practically ZERO press backlash from this incident. LSU's media relations department should get medals.

This is really an adult issue. From my own experience, by the time a kid is 6-8 years old he knows all the common cuss words. His little friends keep him well informed. Now and then, Dad mashes his thumb with a hammer, and our apt pupil acquires a whole new saucey vocabulary.

This is the average kid I'm talking about. If he is precocious, he may know a few zingers which would put a furrow in Les Miles' brow. By ages 8-10, that same youngster is familiar with procreation and the various improper ways to describe it. From 10 to 14 he acquires all the latest hip variations of expression and he uses them to shock girls, socially-retarded peers, and occasionally adults.

We impose language rules on kids for our own protection, not because we want to keep them in a state of innocent ignorance. Anyone who has had a kid rip off a string of profanity in front of the Sunday School teacher knows what I mean.:eek2: :eek2:

There's a bit of difference in using a phrase which some have chosen to take offense at (although not when they use it) in a small and trusted group and dropping the F-bomb in front of a large mixed group, including kids. There's been a lot of attempts to gloss over and say it's not such a big thing, etc. Not where I come from. At the very least, it exhibits a lack of presence and self-control in a social setting...

Amen Pachydermatous. Had Coach Saban said it I would be very upset. Family get togethers should be common sense when children are concerned. Whether at a function or at a family get together where children or adults are present being in the moment does not excuse the use of bad language. Yes I was watching an Alabama vs Nebraska game where BAMA had thrown an interception and I yelled out that word. At the young age of 2 my daughter ran into the kitchen and told Grandmother her new word. Yep I was in the dog house for some time. I was in the moment. I now control myself because of my kids and soon to be grand babies. Its just common sense. They will learn the words but it should never be incouraged and given a green light because we are in the moment. :BigA:

I agree 100%. Apparently you and I come from the same place, so to speak.

Good point. My closest friend and his wife retired to their Cape Hatteras summer home last year, so I may have to give the red and black drum a return engagement... :D
