This is just my opinion and I mean no disrespect to LSU fans by saying it, but I think a lot of Les Miles' success can be attributed to Coach Saban's excellent recruiting there. He had the team stocked with top players and more wanting to come aboard. The level of talent was good enough to overcome the level of the coaching. LSU's problem this season is mostly due to Miles being forced to kick that thug quarterback off the team last summer.

I personally believe the same thing as you, he contributed to their 2007 national championship with his recruits in my opinion.

If LSU loses only to UF, UGA, and Bama, that still is not a bad year.

Coker lost 3 games in his 4th year. Previous to that 4th season he had lost only 3 games total in 3 seasons.

2 years later he was out of coaching...

Les Miles coached the 2007 team from spring practice through the BCS Title Game. That title legitimately belongs to Les and his team.

I think the last few games have shown some chinks in the greatness armor, though. Great coaches don't get that many points hung on them by SEC rivals. I don't see LSU in any kind of a decline, but there are some glaring holes on that team that a well-coached, well-prepared opponent can exploit.

One more thing about Coach Miles, LSU and the class issue: That crazy knucklehead has never stuck his paw in the air waving fingers, despite the fact that they have quite an impressive streak against Bama.

And, real LSU fans have a lot of respect for Alabama. My truck has a BAMA tag on the front and I do get kidded. But my nickname at the Ferry Stop in Braithwaite is "BAMA" and I get treated like an adopted but wayward son.

I have been to many LSU football games. Not all against Alabama. I was accepted at the school along with Bama and a few others. The man I've coached basketball with for nearly 10 years is an LSU alum. My best friend went to LSU, as did her husband. We go to LSU - Alabama games as friends, not as war-torn, bitter rivals. Once you are past the "Tigah Bait" gauntlet, your cup is never empty and your plate is never full enough.

One thing about LSU football and LSU football fans: They just don't get enough, and they just can't give enough. They are, without a doubt, the Louisiana equivalent of Bama fans. They hate ya while they love ya.

Also, I do most of my best work in Louisiana. These are some fine, fine people.

This is what God made SEC rivalries to be.
