You're outlook Alan is extremely optimistic. You are making huge assumptions my friend by saying you think that we will beat UGA and UT--those are two very good teams that haven't been standing around while we have been suffering the effects of probation.
Assumptions at this point are all we have. However, my assumptions are based on certain facts as we know them. With regard to UGA, they are WAYYYY overrated IMHO! They have no proven QB and frankly in the SEC that's a death warrant. The only reason Florida is given a pass on this is because Tebow (again IMHO) has everyone fooled. I do believe he's a good QB but it's not like he's the "second coming" (yet). Also, UGA has a terrible (yes even more holes than Bama) Defense. They were bad last year and most UGA insiders fear this year defensively could be even worse. The reason they are given a pass is because Richt does have a tendency to win enough games to keep most people off his back, but it's not like he's proven to be a GREAT coach yet either.
UT, has basically had one decent year out of the past three and several of the games (Bama included) could easily have been losses last year, thus causing Phat Phil to get the boot. Ainge is also overrated almost as much as Tebow at this point. Ainge hasn't done anything to warrant the hype he's received and UT has had (according to most UT insiders) very poor recruiting classes of late. They had a good class this year, but the past 2 or 3 have been extremely suspect. This will also be the year that we'll see if Cutcliffs return will actually make a huge difference in their offensive play. If not, look for UT to have another average to poor year.
Bama IMHO only has 1 true question mark and that is the DL. I realize our LB's aren't world beaters, but they are definitely adequate and given that our DB's should be VERY good and much bigger than the past few years, I see that as a major strength. For Bama to beat UGA we've got to stop the pass and I personally believe we can do that and also put enough pressure on Stafford to cause big time issues for them. Their "D" WILL NOT stop Bama from scoring. I truly believe we're going to put up big points this year. For Bama to beat UT, we'll also have to stop the pass and again I feel the same as with UGA. The teams that will give us fits will likely be the running teams and neither UGA or UT are expected to have GREAT running games. The only team that scares me is Arkansas and the reason I believe we'll have a great shot against them is because of what I said earlier. They are a complete mess at the moment and they only get one minor league warm up game before coming to Tuscaloosa. If we were playing them in late October or later, I'd probably count that as a loss.
Anyway, as I said everything at this point is speculation because for Bama's year to go as I believe we'll need to avoid the injury bug and so nothing is a guarantee, I'm just using logic based on this past years performance. Had Bama been able to score at all, we would have won 8 or 9 games last year fairly easily. I believe this year, we'll score a good bit. Much more than the past four or five years and that alone should make up for our inexperience in the DL.
