A couple of good quotes in there...

Earlier this season, Saban let it slip on his radio show that there might be players with more talent on the team who were not playing as much as others with not as much ability.

Monday, he was asked to explain players who were productive in the past but have lost their standing this year.

"No one can be productive on our team who hasn't created that for themselves," said Saban. "It has nothing to do with anything else relative to what they do - we want to play the best guys. (It's) just their ability to perform on a consistent basis, for whatever reason in terms of what we want and need them to do."

Which leads to this quote...

Because Saban is such a stickler for "the process," demanding things be done his way, it's a safe bet that good players who aren't playing aren't playing because they aren't doing things the Saban way.

It hurts to lose four games, especially when one is to an inferrior team (see last weekend). However, we have to think long-term results, which is why we brought Coach Saban in here in the first place. The team sorely lacked dicipline, as can be attested from three years ago to this past weeeknd.

I know it's an old cliche', but one step backward is going to get us two steps forward.

I know what you say is correct, it's just hard when taking that step back Miss St steps on our toes.

I do believe that with a few more waltzes under our belts, Saban will have us "Dancing with the Stars!"

(oh man, that is really cheesy!!:))

LOL! It's O.K. 'Flights of Fancy', even 'cheesy' ones, are appropriate for the time being! It does take a while to get a second wind after a large disappointment!:)

Roll Tide!:BigA:

something i've noticed is that our penalties compared to last year are way down. Is that just me?

Last year we averatged 6.0 penalties a game and 42.8 penalty yards per game, which were tied for 41st in the nation and 73rd respectively. This year we are averaging 4.7 penalties a game and 37.8 penalty yards per game. Those numbers have us 114th and 73rd respectively. So we are averaging less penalties, but the penalties we have are for more yardage. This tells me we're getting more of the 10 yard variety, which means we aren't getting a lot of the 5 yard variety which means we aren't having as many pre-snap penalties.

...apparently we have some on the team that haven't figured that out and as I believe he has already said...if they don't do it his way he will replace them with someone who will...I support the Coach on this!

Good points TiM. This is a long term recovery operation and a lot of people cannot think or will not think long term, it has to be this season or the next. These are the people who question the hiring and salary of CNS because it hasn't happened yet.

Not just you. As of right now, Alabama is the least-penalized team in the SEC. It's like night and day from last year.

I just looked up the stats (slow day :) ), in 13 games last year we had 78 penalties (6/game), this year thru 10 games we have 47 (4.7/game). It sure seems like we've been penalized much less than last year altho not by much.

While I'm dissappointed in last weekend's loss, I know that next year should be better. All Saban has to work with is a 6-7 team and a few of his recruits, which he has played several times.

Has anyone notived that Saban has "screamed" at someone on the other end of the headphones a few times. He did it last Saturday and he did it during the Tennessee game (right before halftime).

Gosh, I would hate to be that person.

I posted about this in another thread last week. I enjoy the Chris Stewart / Tyler Watts rebroadcast of each game, because that production crew follows Saban with the camera between plays much more than you see with the networks.

On our last possession against LSU when we had to burn a timeout while waiting on the 4th down play to be called in from the press box, Saban exploded with, "C'mon, MAJOR!" then continued into a rant about having only 1 timeout.

It reminds me of the videos that were the "town hall meeting" format of Bama legends that were produced about 5 years ago. Mal Moore had a story about assistants in the press box not answering when Coach Bryant tried to chew them out thru the headset.:biggrin2:

In the two games I went to this year, I caught myself watchin CNS through the binoculars as a play started. He is constantly working the headset. It is also hilarious to watch him pace up and down the sideline and see the "wave" effect (players and coaches go back 5 feet then back to there original spot) as he comes and goes.
