Inside Georgia Southern's bold move to hire former USC Trojans coach Clay Helton
Helton was fired this season by the Trojans, and the Eagles earlier fired Chad Lunsfordfootballscoop.com
From what I read he was asked to stay on as head coach until the season is over, but declined. Then he came in to work on Monday to make sure they didn't need any help with the game plan for this weekend. Not sure what to make of that.Interesting. Patterson was a hot name for a while there, but wasn’t able to sustain.
We’ll know how “mutual” it is when we know how much of his buyout he gets.
I know TCU is a private school and doesn’t have to disclose, but those things have a way of getting out.
I wonder why they’re not going after Paul Johnson. He led them to a couple of 1-AA NCs.Clay Helton offered HC job at Georgia Southern.

From unnamed sources Paul Johnson is collecting his checks and enjoying life @ Grandfather Mtn. I don't see him coaching any time soon...I wonder why they’re not going after Paul Johnson. He led them to a couple of 1-AA NCs.

Is that you D.A.?I wonder why they’re not going after Paul Johnson. He led them to a couple of 1-AA NCs.
Strong Jerry Seinfeld vibes here. "But you're Akron!"University of Akron will try to start anew with a different coach; Tom Arth dismissed
And another one bites the dust...
The Curse of D.A. Baxter strikes again!!!I wonder why they’re not going after Paul Johnson. He led them to a couple of 1-AA NCs.
LOLOLOLOL ... I remember not so long ago when the Barn faithful were telling me "Malzahn is done at Auburn. We're going to go get Clay Helton at USC. You know...he played at Auburn. He's an "Auburn Man".Clay Helton offered HC job at Georgia Southern.

With what they are paid these days, it still amazes me that more of these guys don't follow that path. I've only come up with one answer- they just love what they do.From unnamed sources Paul Johnson is collecting his checks and enjoying life @ Grandfather Mtn. Well in all fairness to Tom Arth, he did follow Terry Bowden there at Akron. And we all know those were some very, very TINY shoes to fill.University of Akron will try to start anew with a different coach; Tom Arth dismissed

Big sign on I-285 welcoming Helton to Ga SouthernWeird but I guess you take what you can get.
I did see a story speculating whether he might be in Tuscaloosa next year...Gary Patterson had some good defenses at TCU. I wonder if he would be interested at this point in his life in being a coordinator again…..
Idk if at his age he'd want anything but a HC job but I would gladly take himGary Patterson had some good defenses at TCU. I wonder if he would be interested at this point in his life in being a coordinator again…..
He has always run a 4 man front. Schematically, Nick Saban runs the 3/4 even if we are in Nickle and what looks like a 4 man front a lot of the time.Gary Patterson had some good defenses at TCU. I wonder if he would be interested at this point in his life in being a coordinator again…..
We are still shaking our heads about the UNA move from D2 but I guess the Athletic Department decided going from the D2 Penthouse to the D1 Outhouse for budget payoffs as a homecoming game for legit D1 programs made sense.I know everybody WANTS to win, but some of these programs just need to realize that they CAN'T in D1 and need to move back down in order to be competitive.
