While I understand your thinking, I'm not sure it would be ethical or legal to be contacting a HC candidate ... before you've cut ties with the present coach.

Just don't see college ball as an option for NFL guys any longer. Coaches want to coach not put up with all the crap one has to deal with in college football these days. That is the reason Saban hung it up after all.

that might be the perfect place for Franklin, since he cannot win big games. There aren't any in that conference.

Va. Tech has officially hired Franklin now. A job with a lot less pressure. I imagine if he can get them to an ACC title and just a playoff appearance their fans will be satisfied.

Important point you make there: Saban has even said himself in recent days that he'd go the pro route instead with the college game having changed like it has.

Pre nil he usually had upper middle of the pack big ten talent and never had a good qb. I think he’ll do alright myself. For teams that were never gonna pull a top tier coach anyways he’s a home run hire.
