Based on what? Not flaming, just curious.
Performance?

I'd think the ST coach in the least has to go, if there was a WAR stat for Alabama's special team starters most would have a negative.

Alabama's punting average is ranked 101
Kick returns 116
Punt returns 79
Field goal percentage 108

That's not keep your job numbers.

I don't disagree, but I was just wanting to know if that was based on any "insider" information...

There was a rumor about the OC coach, but I've heard absolutely nothing to substantiate it. No rumor otherwise as far as I'm aware.

But, with Sheridan gone, and the fact that Sheridans took up coordinator money without being a coordinator, there's going to be some money to spend on staff. 1.5 million is quite a bit for assistants.

So, I imagine defense to be relatively static (if at all possible), nothing broke to fix, no departures as of yet that I'm aware. That should mean money (and even an empty slot currently) for staff to address the issues that are readily apparent on offense (and special teams). I think there's good reason to expect that.

Yeah, but OL and ST were specifically mentioned by JustNeedMe81.

If Kap is leaving, then I hope we will be calling Sam Pittman...

It's really common sense. Even a blind man can see this coming.

and I would bet it's safe to assume Huff would replace Kap or anyone better, but I doubt we'll look at Pittman. he's not a good fit with CKD's system.

Huff? Do you mean Charles Huff? I would bet Huff is not coming to Alabama since he was just named Head Coach at Memphis.

I'd have to add one thing about DeBoer's system, the lack of a power running game and physicality on offense is a major issue as far as I'm concerned. I've heard it repeated that someone like Justice Haynes just wasn't a good fit because he was a power back (1,473 yards, 6.5 YPC and 19 TDs in his career).

Then for instance you point out Pittman,, kind of the gold standard for offensive line coaches isn't a fit for the same basic reason. He'd want to maul opponents and DeBoer does finesse. I'm not saying it HAS To be Pittman, but this built in weakness (in both senses) in DeBoer's system really does need to be addressed because it's the Achilles heel.

I know some people less familiar with DeBoer tend to just be like yeah well it's the personnel here, that are the cause for the ineffective run game. It's just an ineffective run game, period, it's a systemic flaw. For instance, his much lauded 2023 Washington team ran for 1.7 against Michigan and was completely, physically dominated. It just took playing a physical team to expose the flaw.

So, to me he shouldn't be looking for a fit for his system, he should be looking for a fix... if he can bring in someone that can install a running game and some physicality into his offense, then it becomes as great as people thought it was.

I think Deboer is more of hiring guys that coach the techniques he wants to implement and less about hiring who’s who of assistants. I foresee him taking an unknown guy or a guy that has previously worked for him. Huff would probably be his preferred choice but idk if he could get him back to Tuscaloosa or not. Nor do I know if that would fix the issue because many thought Grubb coming back would fix it too.

As far as Sheridan… I don’t think he is near as bad as many seem to think. He was more or less thrust into a role he wasn’t prepared for because Seattle swooped in and hired Grubb and the OL coach, he had to deal with a RB playing quarterback, then was forced to be a QB coach to a 1 year and done starter with a flawed offense, and still managed 20 wins with it with 2 brutal schedules. I see most of the criticisms on this staff as more anti DeBoer and less valid criticisms. Keep in mind many of these same bama fans who complain were the same ones incessantly dogging Kane Wommack the day we hired him.

I think there are fair critiques and just “I hate the hire so I’m going to write about it” critiques. Personally i think the truth is that we don’t have the gold mine of talent that some people believe we were left from the Saban era, and we are in the process of rebuilding it to something DeBoer wants. We are probably a year or 2 away from achieving it but ultimately we are ahead of schedule. I think we are just experiencing growing pains and for some that is just uncontrollable agony.
