I was just watching 1st and 10 on ESPN, and i cannot believe what they just said. They were talking about Miami interviewing Shula. The guest analyst opposite Skip Bayless said, "I know their math skills in the Deep South aren't that good, but even they can figure out that 26-23 won't cut it."

Can you BELIEVE this garbage? How could any self-respecting news organization air this trash? How is stereotyping a faction of this country any different than being racist? They wouldn't allow racist comments on their network, and it offends me deeply that they would air this.

I wonder if he realized that Skip graduated from Vandy. I'm sure Skip didn't take kindly to that.

I proudly extend the finger to ESPN and all its producers. You guys can take your self-righteous manure elsewhere.

I will now take my "sub-par math skills" and do my calculus III homework.

I do have sub-par math skills but I can spell donkey---S K I P. :biggrin2:

Skip didn't say it. The guest analyst did. Sorry if i worded that poorly. Skip graduated from Vandy, and he has backed Alabama throughout the coaching search. He stated that Alabama was a "Sleeping Giant" and that Coach Saban made the right call. Skip isn't always the biggest SEC supporter but has never attacked the schools themselves.

It just urks me. I can take the shots at CNS and the administration, but when you start taking shots at me, my family, and my friends... I get ....ed.

Perhaps we should start a class action law suit against ESPN for discrimination.

I'm sure someone would take that up as pro bono work. It seems that its ok to stereotype the South but we're bigots if we stereotype anyone else. Its about time a group of folks from the South stands up for who we are and what we believe in and quit getting railroaded.

Were they referring to Miami being in the Deep South? There's nothing even remotely Deep South about Miami. Or even American for that matter.

Yeah, maybe Tommy Gallion could handle it for us. :BigA: :BigA: :BigA: :BigA:

I thought it was just an attempt at being funny.... and it was.

Need to have a bit thicker skin.

I don't see them making fun of anyone else. Once they start picking on everyone equally, I will take it lightly. We all know that won't happen. In turn, I won't lighten up about this. Why are we the bad guys?

While it all has not been positive during the Alabama coaching change there is one thing for sure, the Crimson Tide has been in the news. Even bad publicity is publicity.

The day Saban was announced I came home for lunch, my wife was off and we were watching ESPN. It was all Saban and Alabama. After a few minutes she wanted to change to the news, I switched to CNN and there was Saban and Alabama. After a couple of minutes my wife was still wanting to see the news and I wanted to check tide fans anyway so I changed to FOX and guess what was on? You got it. My wife said, we wouldn't know if they captured Bin Laden the coach at Alabama is more important!

No, the problem is that we've had thick skin for too dang long and as a result, we are now the designated whipping boy for the rest of the nation. Southerners in general and White male Southerners in particular are fair game for everyone and the ever popular political correctness never applies to us.:mad2:

Southern stereotypes will ALWAYS be used in the national media. Until the day I die they will be. Although I can't say that there aren't a lot of country bumpkin folks that make us look bad (drunk woman kissing Saban, etc). The best thing to do is to just not let it bother you, be proud to be Southern, and show those Yankees that we know otherwise.

Less room for the rest of us in burning hell. . .
