I thought this was interesting that the composite computers had the top five as:

Yeah the computers must not be able to remember the month of September. I thought computers were supposed to be smart. :conf2:
It is pretty clear to see why th computers would put VT at number 1. Look at their two losses, they are to the number 2 and 14 ranked teams and thier SOS is 5th. Compare this to LSU whose losses are to the number 27 and 38 teams. OSU only has 1 loss but they played such a soft schedule the computers rule them out. It is all about who you lose to for the computers. Look at USC they are 9th in the computers because they lost to Stanford
I believe that the computers disregard blow-outs in excess of 14 points or something like that, but remembering back to September, the VT-LSU game was not as close as the score indicated. It was a complete domination of one team by the other.
A computer poll that completely ignores a 41 point head-to-head butt whipping is worthless. The #2 team that they lost to is clearly better than them, so at best, they are #3 (or #2 if LSU is moved up to #1)...

A 41pt loss to the #2 team is the same as 1pt loss to the #2 team in the computers eyes. That is why Oklahoma wasn't very strong in the computers a few weeks ago, because even if they laid 2000 pts on a bad team, in the computers it was just a win over a weak team.
They tweak and change the system/rules so often though, that all I just wrote could be completely wrong.

If it doesn't, it should when ranking teams that have played head-to-head. One can claim that a loss by 7 or less might be a fluke, but a loss by 21 or more is not. No team that losses to another by 21 points or more should be allowed to be ranked ahead of that team...
At least the computers look at strength of schedule. It is more important who you play than margin of victory and we all know that any team can be up or down on any Saturday. I firmly believe that OSU should not be in the championship game because of their weak schedule and the fact they did not play in a conference championship game. Strength of schedule should be a major factor but we all know we will never see that because it would hurt the big 10 and pac 10 ten teams chances and they are the medias darlings along notre damn.
Well... only as smart as the ones programming them...

Some of the crap these computers spit out puzzles me, then you add the politics of teams trying to win a popularity contest and the media trying to get the highest ratings.
Based on all that I'd say it should be UF with the magnificent Tebow, to satisfy the media lovefest, versus Ohio State for all the big 11ers to get their rematch. While we're at it Notre Dame should get Hawaii's spot in the Sugar Bowl. I mean they DESERVE a BCS bid, right?
Uh, the BSC made the computer polls remove margin of victory as a factor a few years ago. So don't blame it on the polls that's not considered...
Unfortunately, it can't to the computer polls because the BCS forced them to cap the margin of victory so it's "garbage in - garbage out".
It was put into place because teams were running up the score in hope of gaining ground in the computer polls.
It is silly though, because the margin of victory is considered by the human polls which make up 2/3 of the BCS voting power.
I believe a better system would be to cap the margin victory at 28.
These computers are likely the same that claimed there were over 100,000 in attendance at JHS for the iron bowl.
Thats the good point of the computers. There is zero emotion and hype factored in. They each use different criteria and weight it differently. If you look at the individual rankings, there is variation. They are constantly tweaking the programs but as we see, it is more an art than an exact science
