Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson

Looks like we can add Alles from OSU to the official list as well - Link
Saban has hired Todd Alles, a former program assistant for Ohio State, to be the director of football operations, one source said. Randy Ross, a 17-year veteran on the UA staff, had previously held the post, though a school is not limited to one coach in such an off-the-field position.

I am fairly certain it was Paul calling the plays in. Looks like Jimbo is out.
Not really surprised, nor can I say I'm really disapointed. I know CJF is a good coach........I just think there's better out there. Would really like to see Major Applewhite, in Crimson........at last!;) :)

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson, Smart

Are we thinking that Major Applewhite will be the OC or QB coach. One way I think is that Major is a young coach who could stand to learn from one of the best out there and would take a job at QB and let us go after a big name for OC. Major likes Bama and this would give him a chance to learn big time football.

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson, Smart

Per Rivals:

Joe Pendry, former Texans OC, being considered for OC at Bama. Steve Marshall, former Texans OLC, being considered for OLC. Applewhite is expected to remain at Rice. Coaching staff expected to be wrapped up this week.

Pendry is said to be very conservative - "Texans offensive coordinator Joe Pendry has a reputation for being so conservative he makes George W. Bush look like Bill Clinton."

Joe freakin' Pendry? I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. I know that him and Saban go way back, but seriously, I've seen about all of the run, run, throw, punt offense that I can handle.

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson

No.

Only 9 assistant coaches can coach at practice or be on the sidelines during a game. You are allowed to have graduate assistants but they cannot travel to recruit. I am not sure of how many graduate assistants are allowed but 2 is a number that comes to mind.

Coaches in the box during a game are designated from the 9 assistants. Usually one from offense and one from defense.
When I was working for the GT football team, I'm pretty sure we had more than 2 GAs. I could be wrong though.

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson, Smart

He may be conservative at his current stint but he hasn't always been that way. I got this from a friend. While at Buffalo with Flutie and Rob Johnson, he ran a more wide open attack. He also helped develop Eric Moulds who was considered a bust when he first came to the league. Many times in the pros, your personel and HC determine your offensive style. This is not a "Shula" type of OC. He has shown that he will adapt to the personel--Flutie. Remember that he has had a horrible OL and their offensive personel is average at best. This may not be the feel good hire that a Fisher or Petrino would give the fans, but it doesn't mean it is a bad hire. Saban knows what is best.

Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson, Smart

Does Rivals have a clue or are they just spit-balling?
We are all spit-balling as I type. With so many college and pro teams adjusting and building coaching staffs things keep changing. This ain't Walmart or Burger King.

I think Bobby Williams and Travis Jones will join Saban's staff soon, possibly today, and I haven't scratched Major Applewhite off my list yet. If there is any young coach in America worth taking a chance on it would probably be Major.

One thing I think we can expect from Saban we haven't seen lately is assistants being held accountable for their players and actions. Anyone not up to par will be replaced. I am hoping the whole staff will be in place by this weekend when we have a big, big, huge, batch of recruits coming to Tuscaloosa. I also look for a couple of the really high profile guys that did not have Alabama on their list for a visit to wedge in a mid week visit to talk with Coach Saban.

Richard Simmons is a strong candidate. Our O-line will be sweating to the oldies in no time. :biggrin2: :biggrin2:
Yeah, but to "It's Raining Men".

Not that there is anything wrong with that...

Tidesports on Joe Pandry

Should make for an interesting atmosphere tonight lol:

Saban will be introduced to Alabama fans at halftime of tonight’s basketball game against LSU which will be broadcast on ESPN2, but there are no plans for him to address the crowd at Coleman Coliseum.
