Re: CONFIRMED Assistant Coaches: Steele, Thompson, Smart

I really don't understand why everyone wants Major Applewhite so much.. I think he is average but I don't find him to be a great coach..

He must be better than average if Saban and Les Miles want him.
Les Miles attempted to call a time out on a change of possession (before the rule change) and thought he should get his challenge back in the Sugar Bowl because the call was reversed...

Thanks for the info, although it is totally irrelevant to what I just said.

Don't understand - are you a player at Rice? How could you know otherwise?

To me, his stats look pretty good. Especially considering the only real reason Rice made it's first bowl game in 45 years was their offense, you've got to look to the OC as at least a little above average IMO.

Karle on Finebaum reported that Saban offered Major Applewhite the OC position at Bama and offered to pay his buyout from Rice. Also, he said that LSU has offered the same position and there is a chance that the HC at Rice could leave and Applewhite could take over there. :conf3:

Um no.. The reason I say that is because it is Rice... How could their schedule be compared to our schedule in any way?

yes,it appears MA feels he might have to work to hard for CNS b/c I doubt LSU offered more money than Bama!

I think he's hoping to try for the HC job at Rice if it opens. Could you blame him?

how could their talent be compared in any way? If an offense works... it works. the more talent you have with that offense the better it works. period. If an offense works at rice... especially if that offense matches the skill set of the players we have, it will work here. i mean the guy won at rice. RICE.

The same people said that Urban Meyer's offense wouldn't work in the SEC because he would be coaching against better talent. What people failed to realize, he would be coaching better talent also.

If he has blue eyes too, then he's just like me...the blackest guy on the face of the earth. Great fact checking there, Birmingham News.
