Game Thread: COTTON BOWL / CFP Semifinal 1: Clemson vs Notre Dame (3:00pm CT | ESPN)

ND had opportunities in the first half, several possessions started at Mid field! But it’s all over now!

My thoughts:

1. ND just doesn't have the depth and overall talent to hang with Clemson or us.

2. ND has got the unfortunate end of several calls. Thought the replay official missed the fumble call out of bounds. Should have been ND's ball and they could have gotten 6 there. I also thought the ND receiver caught the ball they called incomplete. Say what we want to about the SEC crew but they have been in sync with the former official on the broadcast so far.

3. I think Clemson and ND look well coached. ND has made strides but the difference in still talent.

4. Basically, Ross, the Alabama boy, has been the difference in the game.

What I can't figure out is why aren't we playing ND? Seems like OU should be #3!?!

That was the only way to guarantee that OU and Bama played. I honestly believe that too. We’ve seen the results from Bama and ND & Clemson. Clemson DESTROYED OU 2 years ago and I think they wanted to see the battle of Crimson. It’s as close as the vaunted Oregon vs. Bama matchup that people wanted that never happened.

Agreed. They never get the seeding right. ND should have been the #4.

The number 4 team is usually the hottest team at the end of the year , caught fire just in time to barely make the playoffs, except last year, the best team in CFB all year had a bad game and Barely made it. Either way , the #4 seed is a hard out.

UGA should've been playing Clemson. Instead somehow the 2 seed ends up with a damn bye week while we're getting an actual live opponent.

ND has been a huge let down in the BCS & now the CFP era. They’re overmatched. There’s a reason they’ve not won a National Championship since the poll era. It must be voted on and not won on the field.

To be honest, Clemson hasn’t looked that good to me! But hasn’t had to be good!

If I can go back and find it, I'll link it here. I was positive that OU would be 3 and ND 4. That way we could play in Texas in primetime at Bryant Denny West in front of a sold out crowd.

I thought they'd penalize the lack of game since ND didn't play on championship Saturday and a team that did (and won) would be rewarded with the jump to #3.

Quite frankly, OU wasn't really rewarded. They literally just moved up the one spot vacated by the team that list (Georgia.)

It's just hard to move a team with a loss over an undefeated team, particularly with OU's perceived weakness on defense and close scrapes. (I know ND had theirs too.)

What should happen is the #1 team to either have the choice of venue or choice of opponent out of the #3 and #4 teams, and the #2 gets the other choice
