Croc Hunter killed

sad, yet ironic. the animal lover was killed by an animal. you play with fire and you get burned. it was only a matter of time.

Wow, a stingray barb to the heart! Didn't realize they had that much force. Sad to see him go because he wasn't a wildlife looney like so many misguided peeps. He knew his animals. Wasn't like he tried living with lions or bears and got eaten. He educated people about our wildlife and yes, at his own peril. He always seemed to show the most respect of wildlife's strength. I'll miss him and his shows.

I was a great fan of his. He was a great man and father. He leaves behind a wife and two beautiful children. The world will be less with his leaving.

Crikey! That is sad news. I was a big fan of his also. At least he got to do what he enjoyed in life, not many people do. Sad to see him go. :(

I heard about it the moment I turned on the tv this morning. :(

Can a stingray's barb actually pierce your heart? :conf3:

I was reading a comment by a diver, and they said a stingray's tail is like a jagged dagger. It's barbed and can penetrate human flesh, although it's ineffective against the ray's natural predator, sharks. What killed Steve Irwin is that the venom from the stinger got into his heart. Getting stung right in the chest is extremely rare.

Cardiac Arrest makes more sense than being stabbed through the heart....

I will be praying for his entire family. I lost my father when I was six years old, so I can sympathize somewhat.

It is sad to see him go, especially with having 2 young children. I always enjoyed his shows and even that movie that came out a couple of years ago. You could tell he really loved what he was doing and seemed like a very genuine person. His life was too short, but from a distance, it appeared to be a very full life.

You're right. He got to experience alot more than I will ever do in my lifetime. He traveled all over the world, saw exotic animals and places. I think he lived a good life.

Tragedy, indeed, and I liked him, as well as most Aussies I've ever seen or met.

But, the stunt a couple of years ago with his baby son in the crocodile pen was a little more bravado than was necessary.

Looking after and protecting your kids is one thing. Using them in a taunting ritual is a little over the top.

Would anyone else agree that his days were numbered?

No, I don't agree that his days were numbered in the sense you are purporting. I have petted stingrays in Mexico. They seemed harmless. He knew his animals and this was a freak accident. Do you know of anyone else dying from a stingray attack? I don't. It's not like he was swimming with Great White sharks.

His fiasco with his son was just that...a fiasco. A dumb move for sure.

Suffice to say he was enjoyable to watch and he will be missed by millions. I was in Perth, WA a couple years ago and I thought it was funny that even all the Aussies I talked to thought he was a lunatic. He was a passionate man and my prayers are with his family.
