Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

Could all the postings on Facebook be considered recruiting violations?I saw this letter from Nebraska compliance posted somewhere else.

"Message from the Nebraska Athletic Department Compliance Staff:

On behalf of the University of Nebraska student-athletes, we are so thankful to have your support as we continue to build championship teams in every sport.

Because of the ease in which people communicate online with each other today, we thought an educational message is appropriate to clear up any confusion that exists about contacting recruits.

NCAA rules and regulations are complex to say the least, but one area that is completely straightforward is fan communication with recruits. If any fans, boosters, alumni (or any other supporters) of Nebraska has any contact (e.g., in-person, instant message, text message, e-mail, fax, etc.) whatsoever with a recruit there are could be serious consequences such as:

The University of Nebraska would have an NCAA violation to report to the NCAA enforcement staff;
The recruit would become ineligible to participate in athletics at Nebraska, and before any of our coaches could continue to contact the recruit, we would have to rule him/her ineligible and then seek reinstatement through the NCAA office; and
The fan/booster/alumni involved could jeopardize their standing with the University of Nebraska athletic department.

We know that fans of Nebraska are the most dedicated and supportive in the country so please if you have any questions about NCAA rules, contact our office at anytime at 402.472.2042 or e-mail compliance@huskers.com

Thank you for helping Nebraska Athletics stand by our building blocks of TRADITION, TEAMWORK, and INTEGRITY.

Director of Compliance

Actually Scout.com has me as a two star. That's just because they hate Bama. Rivals has me as a four star and Coach Saban has promised me and my parents I'd start my freshman year.

I saw that! congratulations... I can't believe you're only a two star athlete. But, I know you have five star character! Don't ever forget that.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

I think Cyrus and his family should pack a bag and go away for the weekend without telling ANYONE where they are going. The family could then make a decision without influence from one party or the other. Just let the kid be so he can make a decision which will impact his life for the next 3-4 years. Of course, I hope he signs with the Tide but if not so be it.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

Well let's see. He said he felt more at home at Auburn. He said on national television that he wanted to go to Auburn. I think many feel he wants to blaze his own trail versus going with is bigger brother. But I'm not so sure he'll go to Auburn. I think the only people who know anything right now are in the family. We'll all be put out of our misery tomorrow.
I know what you are saying but, as much as I hope CK comes to Bama and teams up with his brother and a host of others like him to win championships, I refuse to be miserable about his decision. He is from Maryland and doesn't know as much about the albarn ways as folks in the SEC but he will learn soon, with either school. It will be a miracle if albarn skates from all their misdeeds the next 2-3 years and, if he is there, he will be caught right in the middle of it.
What I would like to know is why, and how, the albarn coaches have managed to always communicate with Cyrus without the presence of his parents. He visited without them and now the 2 teleconferences without them present.
I think the parents are interested in things better than fun and games for their son.

First of all, the "Facebook stalker" thing has jumped the shark long ago. This is the 21st century, not 1900. We live in the digital age, and checking a highly valued recruit on an open page is completely fair game. However, I know that the 55 year old crowd probably doesn't like that (much like many did not like those crazy phone lines, either). That isn't stalking, it is being informed. I can click on Cyrus' page as fast as I can click on Tidefans. In fact, I may point out that those of us who freak out over/bad mouth an 18 year old may be a bigger stalker than someone who checks a open facebook page. If you leave your Facebook open, it can and will be checked. Oh, by the way guys, intelligent services check your page as well if you post anything off the wall. Terrorist groups have recently targeted some people I know who are going to Iraq soon as well via Facebook, so moral of the story? Close your page if you don't want people looking at your profile.

To be completely honest, I think this whole situation has gone overboard. It has become an adult-male soap opera. Most of us on both sides really don't care what happens to Cyrus, we simply want to stick it to our rival and have a higher ranked class. I want the best for Cyrus and his family, and if he feels it is Auburn then so be it. Now, I do feel that AU has done some extremely dirty things here, most notably using our friend Walt Williams and McGregor in ways that are inappropriate.

I hope we get him, but Im not holding out hope. I do want him and his family to have peace in whatever happens.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

Something that I find odd in all of this as well is that CK has stated that an NFL career is his aim, but look at the current crop of lineman in the NFL from Alabama and API and you see there are twice as many from Alabama. And, of those from API, only one played any part of his career under the current regime. Lee Ziemba, for all of the accolades he has received this year, is projected to go after James Carpenter in the draft.
Alabama plays a pro set offense that has put three lineman in the NFL in the past two drafts.
API plays that sand-lot, meerkat abomination that hasn't put a single lineman in the NFL - save for Dunlap (I think) who played the majority of his career under Tuberville.
It just doesn't make sense to me. Alabama has a reputation of sending players to the NFL who are ready to play upon arrival on both sides of the ball. Except for the plays out of the Pistol formation, our offensive playbook is identical to all 32 teams in the NFL. If you want to play in the NFL, what better place than Alabama to prepare you for it?

blueTunaTiger, from the MEGA THREAD has compiled a compelling story about Coach McGregor. As usual, he is on to something...

Blue Tuna Tides: Gene, Reality Check needed at “Register 4”

ETA: RT1017, why should we let CK go? He is the only innocent one in this mess!!! I hate that he can't see that he is a pawn in a twisted game with his coach and Auburn.
Awesome read and i agree, he is on to something BIG! we'll have to wait and see what happens!

This makes me so sad. There are to many dots here not to connect them. I think of the family and if they have no clue about the ties from the coach to Tony to Newtons. I hope he makes the best decision for him, but I read stuff like this and it worries me to if there is enough time for them to really look into the matter. Maybe nothing to it, but maybe there is. It just breaks my heart, would never want my child to go through this.

Hope this is not out of line if it is please delete.

My FB page now says that I've signed with the University of Alabama to play quarterback and long snapper.
That's funny, mine now says i was just hired as the new Head coach of the TN. Titans, imagine that!

This makes me imagine Bo Pellini screaming at folks in an internet cafe.

Re: Cyrus Kouandjio Commitment (all CK discussion goes here)

The more I think about it I think he just wanted to blaze his own trail. He's a kid. Big brother went to Alabama. Everybody expected him to go to Alabama and most likely father wanted him to go to Alabama because big brother was there and it would be best to have both kids at the same school for obvious reasons. Add to this that Cyrus took a visit the week before the announcement and just got confused. I see his commitment to Auburn as being a "buckaroo" thing to borrow a term from The Hund for the Red October. His family didn't go with him to Auburn. So for him to go out on his own and commit without the family knowing or discussing him going to some other school than Alabama put them in a state of shock. Maybe that had as much to do with the obvious lack of comfort with his decision on national TV. Obviously he had not made up his mind the night before because he did not tell Arie. So the family dynamics must be pretty interesting. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. There is obviously something going on in the mind of CK and some family dynamics that made this a very bizarre deal. That should have been a happy day for Cyrus so I'm sad for him.

He promised you a schollie only if you got me to commit. Don't leave that important piece of info out.
