... as per Andrew Bone.

No real surprise here. He needed a big camp to get a 'Bama offer, and when he didn't show up this weekend, he lost any chance of getting one. He'll commit to Auburn with an official announcement tomorrow morning. Apparently the Barn is recruiting him as a safety, FWIW.

Another low 3-star. Golf clap to the barn.

You know, we had to hear from the goobs the breakdown of Saban's salary per win that first year. Maybe they should do the math on money spent on recruiting per stars. They probably spent $100,000 on toilet paper to haul in 2 midling recruits. Not too impressive.

DJ is a helluva athlete and his speed is legit. Good pick up for them and he would have committed on the spot with an offer from Bama. He was just a victim of the numbers crunch.

Wasn't he injured last year? Seems like a good athlete who could have a big SR year. We didn't have room or I wouldn't mind taking a chance on him. Of course RBs aren't the problem for AU, who is going to open some holes?

Easy fellas... He's just a kid.
I don't think anyone is downing D.J. Howard. Many wished he could have been part of our 2010 class, but the numbers just wouldn't allow it. I think the fact that Auburn fans made such a big deal about how they were going to "change the face of recruiting" with this weekends camp, that its hilarious that only two lower ranked players committed to them.

I wouldn't get caught up in what recruit has this many stars. Terrence Cody had the lowest 3 star ranking and we all know how he turned out.

I hate to see him have to go to gooberville but we just didn't have room for him. He's a good pickup for them though, easily one of their best commits to date.

There are always exceptions (Cody was a 4 star on Scout), but it is clear that in general, the higher regarded the better. But more importantly, Saban had regard for him, he was not offered by Bama.

Finally, the primary point is that AU's hyped recruiting is proving humiliating at this point. I can understand them trying to generate some enthusiasm, but to gen-up the expectations without the ability to deliver is foolish. Their results from this weekend are 2 lower ranked 3 stars and the hope of an FSU reject (rejected because of laziness and being out of shape).

It won't be much longer till any prospective recruits will be able to see AU's product on the field. It will not likely be pretty, more likely to be pathetic. They will become desperate. i.e., they are dead for the foreseeable future. It will be hard for them to recover.

Safety, huh? interesting, I would think getting a commitment from Howard would at least save them some face since their chances of getting top RBs have dwindled dramatically after this weekend.

nice pick up and good luck to the young man!:)

btw, I am sure the barn boards are going to hype his commitment as a blow to Bama's recruitment prowess...

I would have to question his interest in a Bama offer, to be honest, if it is as BET describes. He chose not to come to the Bama camp, his big opportunity to scores points with the staff.

Best of luck to the young man. I hope cheezik does not get him hurt. I have never witnessed a team fall so far so fast as the barn. Maybe they will not be as bad as most project. I know they had a lot of injuries last year and are having their third bad year of recruiting. Good thing they don't have any strong out of conference teams to play this year, they could make the sec look bad.

Well, if the kid was looking for immediate playing time, he made the correct choice. The best of luck to him...except when he faces the Crimson Tide of course.

Andrew Bone said that he had talked to him over time and that if Bama offered his recruitment would be over. One can only assume that it became evident to him that a committable offer was not forthcoming anytime soon. Bama has a multitude of more highly regarded prospects interested at this time.

Not to disrespect anyones decession in this case(saban), because the numbers just weren't there, but this is how underdog teams that have a nasty bite are born. Get enough kids that wanted to play on the other team but didn't make the cut. That's a recipe for trouble.

True, but that's the way it has to be from time to time.

Good grief, we can't take them all. As for Howard, there are others that are more talented coming on board with us....it's all about the numbers. No slap against Howard, but he didn't make the cut.

As I said previously, Howard was never a bad prospect, and honestly he was / is a hell of a lot better player than many Auburn has signed the past two and a half years. Injuries have really kept his recruitment dampened down a bit, but if he can stay healthy at the next level, I do think he really has the potential to be a sleeper. I could very well see him becoming a productive player at the next level.

At Alabama, though, Howard was just caught in a numbers crunch. He would have needed a big performance at our camp to have a shot at an offer, and I think he knew that he would never get it, which is why he just went to Auburn and committed this weekend. He's got to take care of himself, and honestly he cannot sit around and wait forever on something that is probably not going to happen. He did what he had to do, and personally I think he made a good decision. I think it was crystal clear that Howard would have jumped on an Alabama offer the second it came through, but again the chances of that happening were small.

Furthermore, I actually think Howard will end up playing tailback at Auburn. Keep in mind that when I said earlier that the Barn was recruiting him as a safety, that is what their fans were saying, all the while of course they were planning on getting at least two of Seastrunk, Lattimore, and Dyer. That's all sunshine pumping, of course, but objectively I figure they get at most one, with the likely scenario of whiffing on all three, and Howard ends up at tailback for them.

And, of course, in his commitment story, Mark Murphy claimed that Howard had an offer from Alabama... literally put it in the first sentence... :rolleye2:

And it should be pointed out that Howard himself openly said that Auburn was recruiting him to play tailback and that he was excited about playing tailback at Auburn.

Of course, that ought to tell you how their staff feels about their chances with the bigger tailback prospects on the board. Or, are as one of the Boogs put it:

Kind of concerns me that we have him coming as a running back...leads me to believe we will only get one of the Big Four (Seastrunk, Dyer, Lattimore, and Grant).
Personally, I think they ought to be elated if they can just convince one of those guys to come down there...

Yea I don't think they are going to land any of the BIG 4 personally, once the season kicks off and these un-committed guys get a chance to look at how they play it will confirm what I already know, the barn sucks~!~
