so im watching the experts on espn U and former colorado coach Dan hawkins was discussing with the rest of the panel about stephen garcia and Sc's problems and he said something that cracked me up and complimented AJ in the same discussion

Hawkins: Guys will say, "i'll hand it to an idiot, ill throw it to an idiot but im not snaping it to an idiot" and that guy (garcia) just seems to tear down the fabric of everything south carolina wants to accomplished

He followed it up with praise for Aj Mccaron

Hawkins: people get on AJ Mccarons back "oh he is nothing but a game manager" (he said this in a comical mocking tone) do you understand how many coaches would love a guy who doesn't turn it over..who doesn't take sacks unless he has to...throws it away when has to, Puts the ball where it needs to be.

i Know Hawkins wasn't very good at colorado but he made me laugh today and i like what he had to say about AJ. I think with time AJ will become more than a Game Manager, he just needs the experience. But he has proven to be a smart QB with a lot of raw talent.

You know, the thing about it is, every single successful quarterback MUST be a game manager first and foremost. Without that, you can forget anything but constant headaches. If you can get a game manager that can also make NFL level throws, then you've got a rare talent. But you NEED NEED NEED a guy who won't make stupid mistakes. I don't care if the guy can throw a 50 yard seam route on a dart. If he makes boneheaded mistakes, you're not going to win much more than you lose.

As for Hawkins, I think he just got out of his element at Colorado, and Colorado was way down from the probation and scandal of the Gary Barnett era.

Let's see game managers well Bart Starr, Jay Barker, Terry Davis, both Rutledge boys, Pat Trammell, Greg McElroy are just a few that come to mind. On second thought not bad company.

I like how AJ played under the lights in a very adverse and hostile situation (behind very quickly) and in a very noisy Swamp. The Gators seemed to be going WILD after that QUICK score to open the game. I think that shows maturity on his part. The more he plays it's going to be more of "Been There, Done That". Many seem to have stage fright in big games like that. He seemed to be very calm, EXCEPT when Coach had to tell him in so many words to calm down.

By the way, what did happen that caused him to be told to calm down? Even though he scored, did someone grab him by the family jewels while in that big pile in the end zone?

AJ has just missed some explosive plays down field this year. In time AJ will hit those throws and will gain attention as one of the best quarterbacks in the country.

I watched the 1st half of the game on the DVR last night. AJ was upset by the hit he took on the screen to Trent. Looked like the defender put is forearm to AJ's head and drove him to the ground. I like that CNS calmed him down but also liked the fire by AJ. He just has to make sure he doesn't let it get the best of him. As far as AJ being a game manager, he just does what is asked of him in the scheme that we run. If he can get some air under the ball when we do go deep he will b considered more than just a game manager.

Depending on the franchise, lots of NFL teams love game managers that can make plays when needed. It's the turnovers that get you beat. The Pats and Colts have to put up big numbers because their d's are so bad now.

Colorado has very little support for their football program after all of the scandal. It would have been hard for almost anyone to go their and win. Remember how Hawkins had players parents calling him complaining that their kids were working to hard and had little time for fun.

Right now, he's throwing downfield without air under the ball. It looks just like Brodie Croyle. If he can learn that, the skies the limit...

AJ can throw it-don't even worry about it. This was his first real test on the road and he did not want to make a mistake. With every game, every throw, his confidence grows. By the way Saban was yelling at him for his "swagger", I believe he has the heart, he has the arm, has the mind. And so far he's backed it up. I firmly believe Aj wants to WIN-that's what makes a great player. This is what a Saban coached player is now, when they buy in.

Mamacalled,

I don't think it's just the scandal. It's (Boulder, Colorado) one of the MOST Liberal areas in the country East of Berkley, Cali. They would support socialism in sports, I'm sure. Everybody needs to be equal. There are some people that are just more equal than others. Take for example Julio, Joe Willie, Hightower, et al.

Hawkins could be a winning coach; however, he just ended up at the wrong school to win. He should never have left BSU or should have taken a job at a school that could win.
