DE Jadeveon Clowney

I am scratching my head about the Clemson writer saying that Clowney spent time with (running backs) coach (Mark) Ingram. You would think since Mark has won the Heisman they would know who he is.

The sports writing gene pool has way too many people splashing around in the shallow end these days.:)

While, I think his visit is great for headlines and exposure, realistically we have very little chance of the guy being in Crimson. I would not get my hopes up if I were you guys. :BigA:

Obviously Clowney is seriously considering Bama and they are among his top favorites. I would not under estimate the recruiting abilities of CNS and the Bama staff. They do not need anymore headlines or exposure, they need talented DEs. I would not be suprised to see both Clowney and Xzavier Dickson as DE signees in the 2011 class.

Not trying to be a party pooper guys, just being realistic. I would love to have this guy in Crimson and I kow that CNS is a master recruiter but several factors are against us.

1) He is a super talented recruit that would probably not start for another two or three years a Bama.
2) Distance, he would be a good distance away from home.
3) Pressure to stay in state. The pressure to stay home when you are that highly recruited is incredible.

Like I said, I would be ECSTATIC if he were in Crimson next year but realistically our chances are slim.

The same arguement that gets old. John Fulton had alot of instate pressure to stay and go to USC. Guess where he is playing. Which also means he is far from home as JC would be. The comments about playing time have little value or when a player gets to see the field. We have no idea on who will pan out and I for one did think Fulton would see much of the field but I think he will now as a freshman. CNS tells these kids it is up to them when they will see the field. Players do not lock up positions if someone comes along and is better they will get in. That is what I like about Saban because he puts the best on the field. We have recruited some top DEs as of late but JC seems to have the most hype around him so he could come in and compete early.

Another thing to remember is that we have been in his top group before he ever visited us so I do think the interest is very strong regarding him and us. In the end he might end up at USC, but alot of their recruiting ability along with Clemson will be based on what they do on the field. There is nothing to show me right now they are ready to compete at the level we are.

Well, I have watched his tape, and it is an extensive one with many plays of him at DE, and I would say that this guy plays his true freshman season.

He reminds me of a Jim Marshall of the Minnesota Vikings, except he is probably just a little bit bigger, faster, and more fluid and athletic. He sticks out on tape from the rest as if he were, well, a movie star. I like this guy.

If he does have Bama in his top three, along with Clemson and SCar, then it could mean one of two things. Either he just wants his name connected with the current national champion, or else he is a "homer" who is so genuinely impressed with Saban and company that he is willing to leave South Carolina.

This guy is an instant pass rush -- you who say that he won't start right off -- have you watched his tape?

Saban has said of him something like this: you see a lot of players around the country who are this athletic, but rarely do you see one this athletic who is this big. You can tell that just by looking at the tape.

We get him and we won't have to wait on a pass rush. He comes here, he probably will be the #1 NFL draft pick in three years. You don't get pass rushers like this every day. Those who rate him #1 in the country know this. A pass rusher like this immediately makes your defense more than just a defense. Remember Curry and Copeland?

This guy has already told his high school coaches that if he makes the NFL, he will buy them an indoor practice facility. Now who do you know who can point him in that direction better than anyone else?

I say we have a good chance here.

With all due respect, I don't think I agree with point #1 at all and if the other two points were really end-all-be-all factors, we wouldn't have players like Trent Richardson or Mark Ingram. Are #2 and #3 factors in his decision which potentially work against us? Perhaps. However, we have a LOT working for us too. Playing as a DE in a CNS defense at the University of Alabama makes up for a heck of a lot of negatives. Personally, I like our chances.

Clowney could be playing in a national championship game if he wants to. At USC he'll never know what it's like to be a champion. He won't know what its like to take pride in your team. He won't get as much exposure. If he goes to USCe, he'll probably go the the NFL. If he comes to Bama, he's almost a guaranteed first rounder even if he leaves a year early. He said he wants to be prepared for the NFL and Alabama offers him the best chance of that, by far. If he is serious about his future he'll come to Bama. If he cares more about the present (what with family and such) he'll probably go to USCe.

The thing is, Clowney will probably be watching a lot more Bama games this year. He'll see the difference in our football programs. He probably won't want to watch a USCe game ever again. That would be just plain boring after watching Bama tear it up. I imagine a lot will change before he announces.

There's absolutely no way to know when he would see the field if he came to Bama, he could play immediately or he could redshirt, but with his talent it's likely he'd see the field sooner rather than later.

The biggest question that Clowney wants to know the answer to is not:

--What position will I play?
--Will I start from day one?
--Will I play for championships?

Those are all great questions and ones that he should and will consider. But the most important question, like John Fulton last year, is:

--Who will be my coach in 2 years?

No question about it, Bama has the strongest answer there.

After seeing his video, I say he'll be in the NFL with either team, BUT Alabama gives him the better chance to be a first rounder which means larger signing bonus which leads to a nicer indoor facililty for his coaches. Like you Hal, I think they know which direction to point him in.

I think he has made up his mind, And I think it is Bama. If he were going to USCe, or N.C. he would have said so and try to back the pressure down from the other schools. By not saying anything, he won't be catching a lot of crap for going out of state. He'll announce on NSD, commit to Bama, and that will be that.

I'd say his recruitment will be a lot like Marcus Lattimore
