DeBoer gets his first transfer ... and it's a QB. Austin Mack

@gtgilbert I appreciate the research and it just shows Deboer wants a passer not a runner at QB. Now, maybe there's a case for a QB who is great at the RPO, but the problem is JM can't even do that.

JM had 2800 yards passing and 500 yards rushing last year.

Penix had almost 5000 yards passing.

Now tell me what kind of QB CKD wants again? A passing one or running one?

Those who believe JM is going to be allowed to play like he did last year without major changes to adapt to CKD's system just aren't paying attention to who the new coach is.

If JM is next years QB his legs will be gravy but he better put some biscuits into his game he hasn't developed yet!

The only way JM is QB1 next year is if he finds some magic genie bottle that grants him unlimited wishes.

There is no way Sayin didn’t “fit” the offense. And that reasoning makes even less sense when you look at the fact that Milroe wasn’t run off. It’s just 100% sour grapes and coping. We likely won’t know why Sayin left for a long time.

I was as excited about Sayin as anyone and I think he'll probably be great down the road. I just hope it's not against us!

But it could have been a case of the new offense not fitting him rather than him not fitting the offense. IOW, he committed to running a pro-style offense rather than CKD's variation of the air raid.

There could be something to this. When you read the NFL scouting reports on a lot of QBs, you'll see mentions of concerns about them being 'system' guys and there being a risk that they won't be able to adjust to running a pro-style offense. Being pro-style or even pro/spread hybrid certainly helps recruit athletes with NFL dreams. That said, I think there is less risk of that narrative with what CKD runs since it is multi-read with a lot of concepts versus what Oregon runs, being a pure RPO spread offense with not as much multi-read passing concepts in play
