I have read several posts on different threads as well as comments from coaches about our defensive team speed being better than last year. Are these observations based on individual 40 times or are they based on read, react and arrive observations from scrimmages? What new starters are faster than last year starters? i.e.-Terrence Jones speed vs Demeco's?

A lot of people think that speed is based on 40 times. But, you have to ask this question. How often does any position on the field involve running in a straight line? With the LBer's and Dbacks it is all about pursuit angles. Interesting you bring up 40 times and Demeco...he didn't have a great time in the 40 and many pointed to that reason as what kept him from being drafted higher than he was. However, with Demeco it was all about football smarts.

About the only positions I pay attention to in regards to 40 times are RB's and WR's.

It was my hopes that the faster comments were related to pursuit angles and arrival times but can't help being sceptical. In adition to the speed comments, I have also read from several sources that our DB's will be more physical. If we are indeed faster to the ball than last year and more physical then I have a new found appreciation for the ability of this staf to recognize and develop talent not to mention higher expectations for the season.
